If enough people want it... it's a collector's item.
There are quite a few cars that might count as future classics, or collector's items that aren't necessarily all that rare, but are desirable.
The Fiat Cinquecento, for example... there's a niche market for the restoration of these. The Mini has proven to be very collectible, even if it's relatively common, as is the Beetle.
Amongst current cars, a stock SiR might prove desirable in ten years (those are the hardest SiRs to find), a Ford Lynx RS (very limited edition... less than 500 MT versions in the whole world... only about 200-250 in the Philippines), the Honda Jazz (definitely), the Suzuki Swift, maybe the Vios , possibly the Suzuki Jimny... who knows?
These cars would be collector's items... but probably not valuable collector's items, like say a vintage Jaguar E-Type... but you don't have to be an expensive car to be worth collecting... (see the Mini).
