Though the manual tells you this, but I usually drop it lower than 1 foot, the closest na maglolock pa din sya.

Yup, & should the latch not catch on drops from various heights, it's a sign it's LUBE time.[emoji4]

On a classic VW Beetle, you grab the handle and slam the hood (trunk).

ride with damper takes a slight swing down but not to slam. takes a little practice to get just the right speed.
yun dampers ng camry, sort of works pag pataas na. when going down it will still slam shut without going too hard though.

we lower it down until it sits on the locking mechanism. then we give it a not-so-mild downward push.
if we grab and slam, chances are, masusupalpal. that front hood has so much lateral movement.
and it's not easy, untangling the mess that results if we miss the mark.

According to Daihatsu, they designed the latch and hood to be dropped (5-8inches). regular greasing is also necessary to keep the mechanism working

Dropping the hood is more art than science.

Siguro it depends on the model. Yung kotse, I'm dropping on at least less than a foot. But yung SUV, i can just lower it down and give a slight push downward, lalo na if bago.

whatever minimum force it takes, to close it.
it varies, even among the exactsame model units.

If steel, slam hood para di ma dent pag diniinan lalo na may mga oto na sobra nipis hood.

Pag carbon fibre hood, need diinan para sumara. No risk of dent naman sa CF.

Not really slam but just let gravity do its work. Leave about a foot or foot and a half and then release holding it. Usually does the trick.

But yeah, depends on the vehicle. Meron kailangan may pwersa talaga. Meron halos ilapat mo lang pwede na.

dati i just fit the hood and push it - on 2 (ek and gen1 crv) cars. no problems.

but when we picked up a new innova at the casa and SA saw me fit and push the hood, told me it would be better to drop it from around a foot.

looking back, it is because it seems newer cars have thinner hoods. baka nga mag-dent. while sa older cars, the hoods are thick. no danger of denting it pag diniinan.

nowadays, i just drop it. gently.
