To tide over buyers anxious for the
V8-powered 400-hp M3 due in 2006, BMW is offering a $4,000 Competition (read handling) package for six-cylinder 2005 M3 coupes. The package includes a sportier suspension, 19-inch wheels with high-performance tires and a quicker, 14.5:1 steering ratio. The DSC employs a less intrusive M track mode with more leeway during spirited driving, and the brakes, which grow to 13.6 inches, are now cross-drilled. Inside, Alcantara adorns the steering wheel and handbrake. Production is underway.
