The Donkervoort D8 D70 RS has beaten the lap time record of the venerable Porsche Carerra GT on the Nordschleife by 15 seconds. Donkervoort is now number 1 on that venerable circuit.

The GT clocked at 7:32:44, while the Donkervoort did it in 7:18:01.

For those of us who are not familiar with Donkervoort, they are a Netherlands-based auto firm that manufactures sports cars that can well be described as the "modern day Lotus 7". The D70 has an incredible 400BHP per tonne, which is amazing for what many consider as a kit car.

This D8 can go from a standstill to 100kph in about 3.6-3.8 seconds. It can stop from 100kph to a standstill in 2.3-2.4 seconds. The engine is a 20V, 1.8 liter Audil, which normally has only a 260-270bhp output. But I think it us due to the D70's "space age, no frills", ultralight but ultra stiff chassis that made the bhp go up to 400.

However, I believe that the D8 could never beat the 2000 Ultima GTR in a straight line sprint/race.
