    VW *owns* the Porsche+Audi group.

the Escape doesn't look like a Freelander, it's a rebadged Mazda Tribute.

GM also collaborates (not own) with BMW AG of Germany and Toyota Motor Corp. of Japan, and vehicle manufacturing ventures with several automakers around the world, including Toyota, Suzuki, Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp. of China, AVTOVAZ of Russia and Renault SA of France. Now, if someone still insist that Subaru, Suzuki, Opel, Isuzu is owned by GM, then Fiat is also owned by GM which owns Ferrari, Maserati. Wow, a Ferrari made by GM :hihihi: . Again, GM doesn't manufacture the above vehicles but collaborates and or distributes such vehicles (GM Network.)

    Now...

GM is the manufacturer of Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, Holden, HUMMER, Oldsmobile, Opel, Pontiac, Saab, Saturn and Vauxhall. GM doesn't just play as a manufacturer of vehicles, they are also involved in vehicle distribution (but not manufacture), that is why some people misinterpreted GM as the manufacturer of such vehicle.

but how come Subaru, Fiat, Isuzu, and Suzuki shows up as part of GM's Auto brands in their website?

Because they are the DISTRIBUTOR of such vehicles on countries other than their originating country such as Japan.
GM may not have the controlling ownership of suzuki and isuzu...but GM owns a big part of the isuzu and suzuki. read this most recent article...

    http://www.autonews.com/apps/pbcs.dl.../60306002/1003

On Tuesday, March 7, GM plans to sell 17.4 percent of Suzuki into the open market, as Suzuki concurrently buys back about the same number of shares. The move will leave GM with 3 percent of Suzuki.
Clarke won't comment directly on whether GM might also sell all or part of its 12-percent stake in Isuzu Motors Ltd. "We've made no decision," he says.
GM doesn't put those brands in its website because it doesn't have the 'controlling' ownership of those brands. there are other owner who owns much larger share of the company than GM. the rebadged Vauxhall (GM Europe) Fontera here in UK is actually the Isuzu Tropper.

Porsche (the company) is not owned by VW.

The Beetle was designed by Porsche (the person). Apart from that, he has no ownership, with Hitler being who he was and Nazi Germany being what it was then.

VW Group owns the following brands: VW, Skoda, Bentley, and Bugatti, Audi, SEAT and Lamborghini.

Porsche, the company, has actually purchased a little over 10% of VW, and has announced that it is aiming for 20% ownership.

Also, VW doesn't own Rolls Royce.

It was a murky deal with BMW and VW regarding Rolls Royce's (the big company also making airplane engines) sale of the car-making unit and brand. If I'm not mistaken, only the Bentley brand went to VW.
