interestingly, there is a site (i forgot the address) explaining the exact opposite. in short, driving it hard to get things to set in. i know of a few that drove their cars hard since the day they bought it.

fxt, your break-in period must suck knowing you have power you cant use yet.
Actually, it may work in some cases, in others, it may just cause accelerated wear. May even involve some placebo effect... as occassional hard driving often makes engines feel a bit more responsive.
