It was during highway driving, the check engine light suddenly turned on. Power was down.

Brought it to the casa, they found that cylinder 2 was misfiring. It turned out part of the piston was broken off. Sh***y luck.

Car is still under warranty. Its only 1 year and 8 months old. The engine will be sent back to the factory to be studied according to the casa. They might even issue a recall.

Casa said that they are processing the warranty. Most of the engine parts such as the short block will be replaced daw. Just sharing what happened to us. Disappointed that this happened, sana magpahiram sila ng service car.

What is the mileage of this car? Was it driven hard often?

I might even demand a replacement vehicle at this point, let alone a loaner. And then make it viral on social media.

How was the casa's attitude towards servicing your vehicle?

Around 17,000 Km only. Driven hard sometimes when out of town but nothing too extreme. But 90% of the time its city driven.

The casa is surprisingly accomodating so far. I think it might be because my dad is good friends with the service head. Kaya mahirap maging hostile sa casa... we can only blame Ford (maybe Thailand) itself.

That’s bad news indeed! Ford should investigate further.

Are pistons supplied by another manufacturer?

Probably you are an unlucky recipient of manufacturing defect.

Not sure who supplies their pistons. Maybe they are manufactured in house.

This might be a one-off case, or this might affect other 1.5L ecoboost as well. Who knows. Ford said they will be analyzing what caused this. My only problem is I don’t have a car to drive now. Pwede sana magpahiram sila kahit Fiesta man lang. 😂

Kung manufactured in-house ang pistons nila eh malaking problema yan.

A good friend drives a Focus Ecobooost told me he knew of two other people who had the same issue. One is from a heavily modified engine while the other is stock. He is complaining that he is experiencing oil burning with his 1.5L Ecoboost engine.

Wow. If that is the case, there might really be a recall in the future.
I did not experience burning oil though.

Did the other owners solve their problems already?

Bro, I have a question. Did your friend and the other owners drive their Focus hard during the break in period?

I just remembered when my dad and brother test drove and borrowed mine, they said they drove the hell out of it to “test the capabilities” and even reached 160km/h... from what I know, one should not exceed 100km/h during the break-in period...

Any input from them would be great.

I am not sure how hard they drove their Foci during the break-in period but the only thing I remembered from Ford when I got my Fiesta is that I should not try to hit redline during the break-in period. Ecoboost engines are rev-happy and it's hard keeping it below 3k rpm specially when the turbo spools already.

The Focus can easily do 160kmh, even 200kmh will not stress the engine at all. I guess your dad and brother have not tapped the full potential of that 1.5L Ecoboost engine. Once that engine is fixed, give it a go and flex the legs of your car. Just make sure the road is open.

Oh boy, they definitely redlined it. Paglabas pa lang sa casa, I let my father drive it and he went full acceleration agad.. I myself am guilty redlining it within the break in period since I thought the period ends at 1000Km instead of 1000 miles, yun pala 1500Km according sa manual.

I think I’m now having the idea that maybe the car wasn’t properly broken in... of course all of this is only theoretical... but I won’t tell the casa though. Baka ako pabayarin. 😂

This is true... coming from 1.5m/t ecosport, i tried to test their ecosport with ecoboost, swabe ang tubro di mo akala sa bigat ng ecosport... pero yun nga nga abot ng 3-4k rpm though gaan parin ang ramdan ng engine... i wonder kung ano na kaya sa fiesta... sarap ng feel siguro...

With my old Fiesta Ecoboost, the engine idles at 1k rpm and the turbo spools just before 2k rpm when properly warmed up. However, when the engine is not yet warm, turbo lag is evident as you need to rev it a bit to 3k to give it a go.

At full acceleration, the Fiesta 1.0L Ecoboost can do 0 to 100 kmh in just ticks below 10 seconds. They say the Fiesta Ecoboost is good for 200 kmh but I have not tried it at that speed, only 180 kmh.

Searching ecoboost blown engine on the internet yields some hits. [emoji848]
They may be even aware of this.

Usually its the big ecoboost 3.5L engines. Did my research before buying the 1.5L ecoboost. The results were that there does not seem to be any problems with the 1.5L...

Surprised this happened. At least documented na ngayon.
