My corolla is up for an oil change soon and im planning to shift to the thinnest possible oil which is 10w-30. I checked the manual and 5w-30 is rated only for use in extremely cold weather (below 0). Engine is the 2E carburated one.

1.) is it to switch to 10w-30 oil, im currently on 15w-40? (not sure kung yun yung specs ng oil pero I use the yellow shell helix)

2.) can anyone suggest a good brand and estimated market price?

    3.) is 10w-30 fully synthetic or semi-synthethic?

    salamat marami.

Went to ACE hardware today. Wala na kasing 10w30. Sabi nung attendant, pwede din daw yung Castrol na 10w40 so that's the one I got for 1K. Yung Shell Helix kasi na 10w40 is 1.4K.

Tama ba yung advice nung attendant saken? In any case I can return the item for replacement w/in 7 days naman.

I also owned an EE100 with a 2E carb engine before. And I believe it requires a 20w-50...correct me if I'm wrong ah.

And since your car might be somewhat 17yrs old, I dont think changing to a thin oil will do it good.

I suggest you stick with 20w-50 na oil. You can buy a liter from Toyota at Php 155 each, Toyota oil is manufactured by Chevron (Caltex). Shell Helix Super (Yellow) is also 20w-50 and costs around Php 215 per liter.

What I did before is use the Toyota oil and change oil every 3k kms reading and change sparkplugs also to Toyota Denso at Php 55 each. Since Php 155 per liter, hindi masakit sa budget and alaga pa makina.

You can try 10w-40 if you want, Shell Helix Plus (Blue) costs Php 320 per liter......if 10w-40 and 10w-30 or 5w-30 does not drip out of your engine overnight then good.....but the bottomline is, if the viscosity is fit for the age of your engine.

before I was planning to use the toyota mineral oil na 20W-50. kaso paraang malapot at matagal mag warm up. so nag 10W-40 na lang ako ng semi synthetic. good for 7,000 km, pero magpapalit ako every 5,000 km.

    50 - malapot, pang 2.5 liter engine gas o diesel, pwedeng 2.0

    http://www.autoeducation.com/autoshop101/oil-change.htm
