ok, how about this comparo. which would make the engine breathe easier (considering m looking more for fuel efficiency and less of the added performance, if any). it's for a 2002 2.0L Camry AT btw.
1. K&N drop-in filter
2. K&N cone type filter with stainless steel tube
i would think hands down in terms of air taken in, the cone type would be the more free flowing alternative. however, what if we factor in the temp. of air that the cone type with stainless steel tube would be taking in vs. that of the stock plastic intake? would it be that much hotter thus negating the air intake advantage with hotter air? or, whether or not it is hotter, will the effect still be noticeable?
thanks.
Option 1: replace the stock cotton air filter element with a drop-in freeflow air filter element (like K&N, APEXi, etc.), since the intake tube of the Gen 5 takes its air from behind the grille and above the radiator.
Option 2: retain the intake tube (as pictured in Option 1), and replace the stock airbox with a tube and an open type filter
a single intake tube runs from above the radiator, downwards, then under the battery, then up to the bottom of the stock airbox (as pictured in Option 2).
if i do go for option 2, and make sure that the intake tube pumps its air directly to the open type intake, will i still benefit from the colder air? or will the intake tube now be useless?
Thanks.
