i have been filling oil to the mark for decades now.. no issues, either.
now, why don't the car manufacturers recommend this "slight underfilling" if it is as beneficial as some entities say?
devil's advocate here..

Sobrang tagal na nun oil inside with so much pollutants nagiging putik na.
Basta malinis yun langis kahit i redline nyo yun rpm nyo walang sisirain yan sa loob. Dahil walang mag cause nang friction dahil malinis yun langis.
Sa punong paglalagay nang langis or sobrang langis. Try nyo po kumain na busog na busog at tumakbo kayo after. Ano pakiramdam? Same principle sa engine. Ask the mechanics of a race car. They do not fill the engine in full capacity and they always change oil frequently kahit fully snythetic pa yan na 0w pa ang grade nang oil na ginagamit nila.
Whether your oil level is at just above minimum up to full. Your engine can run without any problems. But kung just above the min.level sa dipstick you can use the cars just don't rev it to it's limits until you are at least 3/4 from full.
if you put in just 3/4 of the volume, that oil will have a higher concentration of "impurities" than if you put in the full 4 liters.
that might translate to more abrasives running inside that engine...
but yes, the recommendation is between min and max..

I would choose a clean mineral oil than a dirty fully synthetic oil. Kung walang budget i'd change my oil still even with just mineral oil. Saka na mag snythetic pag next time may pambili na. Important thing is the oil in your engine is clean.
Just so happens my engine requires 3.2 liters of oil. If my engine requires 4liters then i would top it off with just 3.8liters.
maybe this is the reason why manufacturers recommend filling the oil to max. para may kaunting patawad, just in case nalimutan ninyong dagdagan ng langis nang matagal na at nag-redline kayo one day..

and we should never forget that the new oil filter just installed is still dry and needs a small volume of oil separate from the oil sump volume..

IMO clean oil or not, redlining your engine increases the chance of damage. Oil only reduces friction inside the engine and does not totally eliminate it.
Also, I believe engine manufacturers already made the necessary calculations to give engines "breathing room" when filling up oil to the recommended full levels.
pulot lang sa wikiRedline refers to the maximum engine speed at which an internal combustion engine or traction motor and its components are designed to operate without causing damage to the components themselves or other parts of the engine
iwas iwasan ang redlining
gaya ng sabi ni sir keto, oil only reduces the friction, may dahilan kung baket nilagyan ng mga engineers ang redline![]()
That's why the engineers put a redline on every engine that they make. You can run your engine up to it without damaging your engine. Been redlining my old car since i can remember i run my car about 4k to 5k kms monthly. Change oil religiously at 5k kms. because of my work as a sales rep.covering the area from isabela down to bicol for 9yrs straight. never had any problems with the engine. Not once did it conked out on me.
I am driving a mazda 3 2004 model.

similar case happened to my friend. IIRC, civic 2010. naghalo ang tubig sa langis to the point naging gatas na. natunaw ang plastic dipstick. baklas lahat, radiator at engine. May parts din na pinalitan. didn't know what the actual price was but minimum amount might be 30k. home service. nakailang palit din ng oil para siguradong malinis Bago gumamit ng orig Honda oil.
Kung palit head gasket yan it will go around 7 to 15 k depende kung saan ka magpapagawa kasama na parts.
Mag canvass ka muna kung magkano head gasket mo and as much as possible yung original.
Sa shop naman na hahanapin mo. Go ask them if they have a torque wrench.
