Definitly the synthetic diesel oils are the best like Mobil Delvac 1 (API CI-4), Mitsubishi Turbo XP (API SL/CF), Petron Rev-X All Terrain (API CF-4/CF), etc... For mineral oils try the Mobil Delvac MX, Petron Rev-X Trekker, and Shell Rimula. All are API CH-4 and SAE 15W-40. Caltex Delo 400 is also very good (API CI-4) though available in 20 liter pails and 200 liter drums. :D

Synthetic oils are definitely the best for our diesel and perhaps all other engines. Ano difference kaya ng mga synthetic oils na namention ni roydok? Mobil Delvac 1 lang kasi ako familiar. Sana magkaroon ng side by side comparison ang mga yon para malaman natin ang best value for money.

If the oil is a mineral oil, it's also better if the the grade difference on the weight (i.e. 15W-40, 5w-30, etc) should not have that high ia difference between the minimum and max grade ( a 20-30 difference would be fine). Try looking up also such info like flashpoint, ash content (the lower the better), etc...

As for me, i'm happy with my Delvac MX naman. Didnt notice any sludging when i change the oil (every 5K). I saw a newspaper article that gave some good info on oils before, including a spec comparison and definition but i lost it...

A good value-for-money synthetic oil for diesels would be Petron's all terrain 5w30 IF your ride is not leaking nor eating up oil. A synthetic would make the engine run smoother, even improve consumption, and can last up to 10k km if your air and oil filters are changed regularly.

synthetic oils is the best but if you have to change oil every 5K sayang lang. for mineral based oil parang maganda yung bagong oil nang shell.

i had my PM done last month sa isuzu pasig and i used shell helix for diesel. im not sure if its psychological but it seems a lot better than rimula x. parang mas "magaan" humatak at mas tahimik.

Do you really follow the 10K km. for the next oil change on your synthetic oils? Or do you change oils at 5K km for synthetic use?

roydok::: Di ba mahal ang fully synthetic oils? Kaya sinasabi ng karamihan it could go for 10K km? At every 5K ang palit di ba po masakit sa bulsa?

Sir ungas mahal nga po ang synthetic compared to mineral oils. What made them more expensive is that they are being synthesized from scratch with similar molecules and better characteristics than mineral oils. Hindi po sila prone to breakdown that will cause sludge formation, higher oil viscosity and poor oil flow. Kaya po pwede sila for extended drain. Some oils with ACEA E5 classification could even go longer than 20k kms basta po minomonitor ang components ng oil like the TBN, etc... Medyo mahal nga po ang oil for a 5k km change kaya po pwede ding every 10k basta palit filter every 5k. Ganito po advice sa akin ng Mitsu casa with the use of their Mitsu Turbo XP !5W-50 synthetic. By the way the Mobil elvac MX is a mineral oil.

100 po per liter sa Syltech sa Banawe near UCPB. Maganda na din po ang Delo 500 15W-40 (API CG-4/SJ). Sabi niya type 2 na daw base oil nito (hydrocracked) kaya mas resistant to oil degradation. The Mobil Delvac MX is rated higher at API CH-4/SJ. Kahit ano naman pong oil pwede sa 4D56 natin basta minimum of API CD. Kahit murang Shell Rimula J, Petron Rev-X Hauler or Delo 200 na pang jeep ay pwede na. Pero anything of higher spec offers better protection.

roydok::: Thanks for the added info. I may have to switch to a cheaper brand of synthetic oil this coming PMS. Do you think the Petron All Terrain (fully synthetic) will work well on my engine?

Yup maganda po ang Petron Rev-X All Terrain as stated by sir jackaroo's scientific used oil assessment in another thread which could be extended more than 5,000 kms of drain. It's also half the price of popular diese synthetics like Mobil Delvac 1 or Mitsu Turbo XP. :D
