You say the difference isn't big between conventional mineral and group 3 hydrocracked "synthetic" oils, but why is it that manufacturers recommend using the latter in turbocharged engines? Like in subaru's manual, it specifically written there to use synthetic oil. I looked at the specs of Subaru's synthetic idemitsu oil its most likely a group 3 oil

And how exactly is 10w better in the Philippines? 5w40 pa, I know its better for heat and aggressive driving

i didn't say that difference isn't big between group2 and 3, what i said was the difference is probably smaller than what you think it really is. if your manual specifically says use xxx due to special requirements then there's probably a good reason to use xxx

5w30 vs 10w30. that 5w is important in cold countries so oil can flow during cold start. it's always hot here so we don't need 5w at all. advantage of 10w is it needs less viscosity improvers than 5w to reach 30 when hot i.e. it's naturally thicker

I've started using 15w40 "fleet" oil on my Diesel because they're even cheaper and often available in bulk.

15w has a boundary temp range of -25°C. That's nowhere near what we'll ever experience here.

I just need to change it every 5-6k or one year.

Heavy duty dino JASO DH1? Good for old diesels...Not ideal for DPF-equipped.

Not the case here. According to the spec comparison, the amsoil OE 5w30 is thicker at 100 celcius than the repsol 10w30.

By the way, out of curiosity, I currently put in Ravenol DXG which has PAO/Ester base stock, and honestly I really can't tell the difference in performance but strangely enough, the oil doesn't turn black as fast even after months of use.

If oil isn't turning dark, it may not be picking contaminants up as it should.

    it's not the months.
    it's the kilometers.

Mineral , semi synthetic or fully synthetic?
