December 25th, 2009 05:44 PM #1Driving a lancer 91 EFI. Naeexperience ko with more frequency lately na ung engine parang sinisinok and nagjejerk (di naman nagtatagal) kapag tatapak sa gas lalo kapag akyatin at mag-oovertake, then noticeable yung loss of power lalo na pag accelerating. Some days normal sya, some days hindi. Lumalabas yung sakit lalo na pag-long drive, seems ok on short level trips though. I suspect fuel pump, kase parang kinakapos at bagal umakyat ng rpm. Ok naman air filter, sparkplugs and no CEL is present. Some say might be dirty fuel tank. Ano kaya?

December 25th, 2009 10:08 PM #3Thanks Jick
Have ruled out those you mentioned. I have replaced the fuel filter less than 2 years ago and the spark plug wires just 3 months ago, but still no luck

have your engine vacuum checked. it usually tells if the exhaust system is clogged, if the valve timing is off or tell you if the ignition timing is off but confirm with a stroboscopic tilming light. also check your ignition coil output. these should have been done when you had a tuneup specially it was giving you sluggish engine performance

December 27th, 2009 10:22 PM #7Sorry for this dumb question, but where can I find the fuel pump relay? Also, my gas tank is acting weird lately. When gassing up, the pump would always automatically stop midway upon filling. The gasoline boy would say the tank is full but it is actually not! Hmm?

Anyway, nabaha ba auto mo?

harimon,
your fuel filler neck is equipped with a restrictor so you won't be able to pump leaded fuel into the tank, that causes the gas station nozzle to trip, also, the kinks and bends of the filler neck makes the flowing gasoline into the tank create a backpressure simulating a full tank. as for the location of the fuel pump relay, it is on the right side of the console in front of the shifter
