October 13th, 2010 09:24 PM #1Hi guys! I have been monitoring an engine leak for around 6months now; its at back of the engine.
- The oil goes low to the middle of the F and L dots after 1month or so so thats when I top-up.
- No smoke on the tail pipe
- Spark plug burn is ok
- Coolant level is fine
- No oil in the radiator
- Engine shifting is ok
- NEVER had an overheat issue
- Engine and A/C fans work great
- Aircon is well maintained
- Cylinder head gasket = Php 622 (Price as per TM Pasong Tamo)
- Valve cover gasket = Php 1,565 (Price as per TM Pasong Tamo)
I went to Toyota Pasong Tamo earlier and asked also the possible reasons for the oil leak. They also advised the same as above but the Service Advisor said that the CYLINDER HEAD GASKET angle might be slim at 78,000kms mileage and if the care never had an overheat issue since.
He said it is possible that its the VALVE COVER GASKET or an OIL SEAL...(I forgot what oil seal it was that he mentioned). Anyhow he said to have it checked just to make sure. Which I plan to do so when the budget is ready.
Since I still dont have the budget for this possible repair, my question is.......What harm will it bring the engine? Any tips? Advice?
I plan to have this fixed sometime December in time for the 80k PMS, when it reaches 82k kms.
Prior to this repair concern, I already planned to change oil every 2months or 3k kms mileage which ever comes first using Shell Helix Plus 10w-40 Semi-synthetic (BLUE).
Thanks!

ganyan din ang ZZ namin. then the engine died due to sludge.
I would recommend na ipa-open mo ang engine cover para makilatis ng mabuti. If there is sludge, then it has to be removed. if none, then kampante ka.

got the same problem, but no leaks to be found, neither any oil consumption is detected. but mas mabagal lang magbawas ng oil yung sa akin, 1/4 lang ang nababawas kada 1 1/2 - 2 months. my engine is at 99.1k km.
will try to switch to a thicker 10w40 or 15w-40 oil on my next pms, then replace my VC gasket since i remedied it before with a silicon sealant.
no sludge yet, i assume.kakabukas ko lang ng top cover last few months.

October 14th, 2010 10:54 AM #5Yes I think the TM Pasong Tamo mentioned it could be the crankshaft oil seal. I dont think it could be a hose as the leak is directly coming from the metal part of the engine. The hoses looked ok.
Sana oil seal nga lang. Will have it checked soon.
What harm will this do?

after 1,000 km mula ng overhaul, change oil ako from mineral to semi synthetic. then change oil ulit after 4,000 km. next ay every 5,000 km using semi synthetic.Last edited by meledson; October 14th, 2010 at 11:16 AM.

not normal for me. i think its that cheap 0w-40 ZIC FS oil i used that caused it. at 90k - 95k km.
before that, di naman nagbabawas ng oil.
now im using RP 10w30 from 95k km - present.
you can open the top cover DIY style anyways. madali lang naman.
and nagtataka din ako, wala naman leak sa crankshaft (kakababa lang ng tranny before, maybe at my 80k - 90k km, limut ko na). totally no signs of leaks.
But it is a chinese vehicle you can get spare parts from lazada or shopee right?
