good day. i have few questions regarding engine braking.

    - napapadali po ba nito masira ang makina at such alarming scale
    - does engine braking consume more fuel

naisip ko lang po ito kasi i was doing 110kph sa EDSA (not particularly fast but ito lang yung record ko sa sasakyan namin na luma na at matanda pa saken) then i came into a slope at nung pababa na the instrument reads 125-130Kph. tanong ko lang po kung malapit na po ba ako sa point na masisira na yung engine?

naalala ko po nung nag-aaral ako magdrive when I was in 4th grade. hirap ako sa naka-inclined na naka-stop tapos aabante uli and while practicing e sumablay tapos naiwan ko na naka-engaged yung 1st gear habang umaatras. medyo malayo rin yung distance. naging weird yung tunog ng makina. di ko sinabi sa erpat ko. (diesel engine to) - nshare ko lang

Bro.,- I assume that you're in 4th or 5th gear when you're running at 130KPH and you lifted your foot from the gas pedal,- that's why you were saying that you're engine braking? Is that so?

If that is the case, then that is perfectly normal, rather than engaging the 'angel gear', i.e. neutral gear, which could be fatal at that scenario.

Don't worry at your engine,- it can handle that. However, be wary of down-shifting to 2nd or 3rd gear at that speed,- it could blow up the engine...

sir, slow lang yung sasakyan namin at tingin ko nasa 110Kph or few more ang maximum speed at max rev. naging 140 (i went back to see the instrument panel and saw na yung angle nung dial is nasa 140 pala kasi hindi maliwanang yung ilaw ko panel) nung pababa na. nangyari po nagrelease ako ng accelerator at akala ko mag-i-slow down di pala kaya dahil sa bigat at naging 140Kph. di na ako nakapag-brake to aid the engine sa gulat ko siguro tapos hinayaan ko lang bumalik sa 97kph.

in other words, na-surpass nung takbo due to enertia yung top speed na usually galing sa makina. so baka na-stress yung engine in someway. any idea kung ano una bibigay pag ganun? tia

    4 gears lang yung sasakyan.

Bro, as long na hindi mo binabad yung engine brake mo (engine revving so high for extended period of times), kayang kaya ng makina mo yan, hindi masisira yan. Just be wary of downshifting to the 3rd or 2nd gear at high speeds.
As what CVT mentioned, never put your car in neutral, delikado yan lalo na pababa ang takbo. Engine braking also consumes a little more gas, but better be safe than sorry sa sobrang pagtitipid.

when you engine brake, just step of the gas and gradually step on the brake pedal. then downshift only as needed based on your RPM.

hindi naman sir. talagang napabilis lang nung biglang baba nung slope.

nagaya ko lang sir. nakasanayan ko kasi. puro sermon nga abot ko sa erpat ko pag kasama ko. ehehe

I've done it. Our ride doesn't have a tacho btw. I just base my step on the pedal purely on the sound and feel of the engine revs. thanks again. =)
