turn off the engine, and put your finger to it, and be convinced.

the belt surface gets shiney because with use, the surface is polished shiney.
it seems, somewhere in its roundabout trip, that side passes over a very fine or shiney metal surface.
    normal.
Copy sir, hindi ko pa nitry hawakan, usually nag inspect the car after drive home from work, usually inaangat ko ang bonnet pra mabilis magpalamig ng engine. So noticed that shiney thing don sa belt nya.

i would replace my belt, when it shows minute cracks on the ridged inner surface. kuripot ako.
others would replace theirs, after every xxxx km, regardless of belt condition. pms to the fullest definition! heh heh.

about lifting the bonnet to cool down the engine faster...
    i don't.
unless we are going to tinker with the engine, which is usually nicer if it were cooler ...why want to make engine cool down faster?
    it's an engine.
    it's not a living thing.
"we are bestowing characteristics of living things, to an inanimate object."
    heh heh.

Agreed with you, atleast from time to time nakikita ko lang loob ng engine bay at naoobserve ko whats happening under the hood.
