Dr D is right about the fuel filter. Failing to replace a blocked air filter will starve the engine of oxygen, an agent of combustion. This will result in low power, black smoke, and high fuel consumption.

    Hi again DD,

Had my air and fuel filters replaced (yung air filter easy job lang, yung fuel filter ako rin sana gagawa kaso matigas at wala akong filter wrench so dinala ko sa mechanic). After replacing it at the shop, OK naman but nung nakauwi na ako and used the vehicle again eh it hesitates to startup (before I had the fuel filter replaced, one-click start palagi)

I was about to drop someone sa airport this early morning and naexperience ko ulit yung hesitation sa startup to the point of stalling (bumaba less than 500rpm) - suspect ko agad sa fuel filter job so tinabi ko muna then I primed the pump (diba dapat the pump should be rock-hard? pag prime ko malambot) then checked the hoses. Nagamit ko naman and pagkauwi ko I checked all the clamps and yung return line sa assembly ay maluwag na and yung screw thread is stripped so I did replaced that clamp and primed it again until hard and OK na ulit.

This afternoon chineck ko yung fuel primer kung matigas and surprisingly its not, so ini-start ko and may hesitation ulit (as far as I know may hangin ulit sa system right?), so plan ko na lang to replace all hoses and clamps. I assume hindi naman ito kamahalan? Also may nabasa ako na the injectors should be bled? Could you expound on this so I can tell my mechanic.

    Many thanks

You are right about checking hoses and clamps. Also, check orings on 3 locations: filter to top housing, water sensor at bottom part of filter, sealing gasket on air bleed screw located on to of filter housing.

    Hi sir DieselDude,

We have a 2003 Pajero fieldmaster..Ang symptoms po ng ride namin is hard starting sya sa umaga and sabay it blows white smoke and rough idling. If i-pump yung fuel primer sa fuel filter gaganda andar nya maghapon. Kinabukasan ng umaga hard starting nanaman sya and we have to pump the fuel filter primer again, after than maganda na naman andar nya ulit. We last calibrated our injection pump Sept 2012. We also replaced Glow Plugs this month lang.

May nabasa din po pala ako sa internet esp. in Australia na pag hard starting with rough idling and white smoke ang 4m40 at pag pinump ang fuel filter primer at gaganda na ang andar nito ay baka raw Oil seal na ng injection pump ang may sira. Na sabi daw doon ay air is sipping into the pump at umaatras ung fuel pabalik ng Filter/tank.

Anyways yun lang po.. any advice from you sir can be very helpful po sa amin..

Hi guys, may problema kasi ako sa Pajero 4M40 ko.

First thing in the morning pag pina-start, ok naman, one click starting. Ano kaya possible problem nito?

Fuel filter was replaced November last year lang. Donaldson pa nga fuel filter nito.

    Thanks sa makakatulong!

I suspect a dirty fuel line.. Check your fuel filter again kahit na you just changed it, baka madumi na. If madumi na, I suggest you have your fuel tank cleaned, baka madami na din dumi

Same ratio as with 2t oil. 5ml for every liter. Seems to be working for me after 3 days of use. Hehe. Baka makatulong.

Remove black fuel hose between fuel filter and injection pump.

Replace it with a clear transparent hose.

Start engine to check for air bubbles on this clear hose.

Ni-set aside muna namin yun problem for a month kasi inayos muna namin yun power steering lines. Now that ok na yun steering ng sasakyan, ito na ang next namin na tututukan.

As of last Tuesday, same problem pa rin.

I'm sorry for this very late reply. It is very possible that you could be pulling in air through faulty fuel hoses and clamps.

Regarding bleeding of injectors, you can do this if you suspect air in your system. You don't need to bleed air once you get your engine running.
