john,
use the carburetor only as needed. your car might turnout to b e a carb cleaner addict. the neoprene seals and gaskets might get brittle. maybe once in six months. but if you use a clean air filter everytime this won't be necessary. many engines in the peelipins are dusted engines because they remove the air filter to tipid. refer to the jeepneys that need engine overhaul often because the ingested dust abraded the cylinder walls and the piston rings. gum and varnish comes from low quality fuel too. you get what you pay for. low quality fuels have less octane and more heptane and have less detergents in 'em.

Sa lumang kotse namin (12+ years old na) we apply carb cleaner whenever we change oil.
Simple lang naman. Remove air filter or open the tube which holds this. Spray into that tube (be careful carb cleaners can damage your car paint) after someone else turns the car on and revs high (press gas). Spray only when the rev is high otherwise the engine will die down. Hold high rev and spray from 10-15 seconds, 3-4 times. That's the first part. Effectively the sensors (MAF) have been cleaned by doing so. Turn the engine off.
Now open where your throttle is. Nasa dulo ito ng tube na kaka spray mo lang. Remove tube and have someone open the throttle by pressing the gas. Spray into that opening. 2-3 times, 5-10 seconds. Close the throttle then return the tube. Close and return everything.
After 15-20 minutes turn the engine on. You will notice the engine will rev very high. Normal yan. Press gently gas once in a while. After 5-10 minutes the rev would go down. Turn engine off and it will rev normally again.
Doing this more often will not add any improvement to your car or engine performance. Every oil change lang pwede na. Flooded cars will benefit from this too.
If you can locate your PCV (newer cars ata wala na nito. not sure). You may remove it and spray carb cleaner on both ends to clean it. Dry then return to the engine.Last edited by OldSchoolHack; November 6th, 2009 at 03:17 PM.
