how much ba ang price ng bago? kung meron mga nondestructive testing like xray, dye penetrant , or ultra sonic para meron kang peace of mind pagawa mo ito, di ko lang alam kung saan meron commercially ito.

September 12th, 2010 09:33 PM #4Camshafts don't crack/break at 2 feet drop. But they can bend. Bring it to a good machine shop to check for bend/alignment.

alam ko na super tibay ang part na iyan.
para mabigyan ng kasigurohan, dalahin sa machine shop para ma verify ang alignment.

Sir:
Most camshafts nowadays are made from a good quality alloy steels (machinery steels like AISI 4140 or 4340) that are first forged (to form the cams) and then case-hardened on their cam-surfaces.
The bearing surfaces and the rest of the camshaft are not case-hardened.
The first place to look for damage would be the cam surfaces - as they are brittle - is there chipping, breaking, galling etc?
If there is, then how bad is it - a good machine shop can tell you if it exceeds the tolerable limit.
The next part to check for is damage to the bearings.
The last is what Sir Dieseldude said - straightness and runout.
A reputable machine shop can perform all these tests - for a price.
If it passes, then clean it and use it again.

usually camshafts are made to be exposed to a lot of beating
but a simple crack may lead to total failure.
sa crack nagsisimula ang fatigue failure.
kung wala, then good.
pero kung meron minute crack, better replace or else overhaul kapag nabreak yan. yung sabi-sabi kasi ng machine shop na "pwede pa yan" is sometimes doubtful lalu na kung kinuha lang sa tingin ang checking or minadali and pagcheck
usually by order ang camshafts sa auto supply or you may check sa surplusan.
the material is either cast iron (if old school engine yan) but probably not aluminum. cast iron does not bend. it breaks suddenly without warning if stress is exceeded
or either the high speed steel as mentioned by dusky lim which is medium carbon steel with nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloying elements for wear, abrasion, corrosion- resistance and hardness

I don't know any cams that are cast... they are mostly forged... so they can take a beating... the biggest worry is if you've bent the shaft... but a small nick on one lobe won't do much to the camshaft's functionality.
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

Be careful with channels like "China Observer" on YouTube. There is a clear bias in their posts and...
