Just sharing, farthest I drove with a broken alternator(battery light lits up and alt not charging) was from Lucena City, Laguna upto Apalit, Pampanga. From the time it lit up, planed my route and palipas oras muna to ease traffic on road. Turned off all electricals. This is on a car with computer box pa and a 2sm battery only. I think pajero fm has no ecu and uses 3sm battery. 12mn umalis ako SPC, dumating ako bahay sa apalit 1:30am+

Fully Charged the battery overnight and the following day, from apalit to manila, dinala ko oto to have the alternator replaced bnew. Brought a spare battery as well just in case ma trapik sa edsa at malow batt battery and mamatay ECU/engine.

Wow! Lakas sir! haha! anyway I had my pajero checked in rey's autoelectrical here in marikina, although mga 4.30pm na ako nandun, I relayed my problem and they just tested with their voltmeter...Without ac and all and engine at idle i was at 13v..with ac on i was at 12v. They just said the alternator needs to be replaced for a whopping 6.8k (rewinded) but they will not be able to replace it during that time kasi closing na. Though I'm not convinced sa ganun kabilis na checking biglang palit agad. Minadali lang ata kasi gusto na magsara...

last month I had my alternator bearings (not a pajero though) replaced at Rey's marikina Hissing pero may grinding sound naman. Legit diagnosis naman about bearings and yun din naman ang tingin ko. from around 12V to 13V ang improvement before/after. Set me back around 1.5k (i think its pricey but mabilis and proven na sila based on my experience) - balik ka siguro another day and have them do another round of diagnosis or 2nd opinion nalang muna sa ibang shop.

Thank you sa tip sir. Baka bumalik ulit siguro ako dun at magpadiagnose ng maayos. Medyo torn lang ako ngayon kung magpapalit na lang ako alternator or magpaparepair lang kung sakali. What would give a longer life ba? yung rewinded na alternator or yung ipapaayos ko lang yung bearing and carbon brush? I hope mas maayos mangyari bukas sakin.

a brand new altrernator is probably the best choice, longevity-wise. it is also the most expensive choice.
pa-ayos nyo ang sirang alternator nyo, at a fraction of the cost of buying a surplus one. plus, you know its innards are good.
a surplus alternator is always a gamble, because you do not know how its innards are.

syempre iba ang peace of mind ng brand new pards. Yun lang ang mahal nyan. Ngayon jan sa Rey's napakaraming Surplus jan. If nakita mo yung work area nila sa right side, there must be hundreds of compressors/alternators ang naka tambak!

if kukuha ka ng surplus due to budget constraints pag aralan mo ung kabit/baklas and tago mo lang ung current mo. then make sure voltage test before/after to prove kung na improve nga ang load. and of course, tawad ka lang.

Me thinks this is the way to go rin. Have your alternator fixed nalang. basta consistent yung diagnosis no need to go surplus or brand new. ang maganda jan sa Rey's isa or dalawa lang gumagawa ng alternator. tiga baklas lang yung kausap mo pero naka delegate dun sa specialist yung pag bukas at fix. magkasama din sila pero hindi kanya kanyang tirada.

If the local shops are incapable or are struggling with a simple charging system problem on a dinosaur, they need to go back to school, relearn, retool and rediscover. Obsolescence is rapid in this automotive service field.

Thank you sa tips mga sir.had it checked sa reys and ok ang karga ng alternator nasa 14v on idle and 13v with aircon. Pero last monday 13v idle and 12v nung may ac. Binuksan at pinalitan bearing kasi rinig na yung ingay. Nung kinabit ulit 14v sa idle and 13.5v to 14v with ac.
