    hi guys and girls

i would like to ask if a capacitor with molds on its poles and board would cause problems with ignition signal or engines performance.

as of now my friend's car. which im trying to fix. wont start properly. it will start but then dies. after checking fuel system. and ignition system. and changing parts that are defective. as said by the Error Code 14 (toyota MR2-3sge engine)

it still wont start properly. last week it was able to run but wont go pass 3000rpm at neutral trans.

but this week it wont start again. i removed the ecu and opened the cover. and saw this (picture). can this be the cause of the engine problem? can it be fixed? or should i be getting a new (surplus) ecu? how do i check if a capacitor is already dead? help guys and girls.

sir, pag nasira capacitor most of the time pumuputok yan... in your case possible yung board mo ang may tama, yung mga connections are corroded na.. you can try cleaning the board then check mo kung may mga loose soldering, tapos yung circuit board check mo din continuity kung may damages na pwede mo naman i-trace then lagyan mo na lang ng bypass na wire... be careful sa pag solder baka may mag short eh masunog pa yan..

    paano gawin yun bro yapoy?

ah, so board nga. i also suspected the board kasi dun merong bubble as indicated on the upper pole of the capacitor.

short circuit? meaning ma solder ko sa ibang line ng circuit board?

From the way it looks, that's very easy to fix (kung capacitor lang).

It would explain bakit namamatay ang makina. kasi yung capacitor, nags-store ng electricity, so pag wala yun, nagkukulang yung supply sa board, so the engine dies.

Bumili ka ng bagong capacitor, mura lang yan, about 2-5 pesos lang. Gamit ka ng maliit na screw driver (precision) to clean the corrosion. Dahan-dahan lang baka naman matuklap yung circuit. Gamit ka rin ng new and unused paint-brush (1") to clean after mo kayurin yung corrosion.

Kung putol na sya, just link them with jumper wire. That should work fine right after.

ask mo muna kung may makukuhang ecu para dyan. baka mas mura pa kung papalit na lang ng ecu. then pag meron na saka mo try i-repair yung damage/defective ecu.

It's cheaper to fix the ECU... a secondhand ECU costs about 10k plus... depending on the model... at tsamba-tsamba yun if you can find a good one. I went through two or three myself... ...also check your wiring... if there's a short anywhere that's overloading that particular capacitor, it might happen again.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

I hope in the future, ECU's would be just like replacing computer motherboards.

Interchangeable, standard connectors, madali hanapin brand new, easy to customize (via OS), installable applications, etc.

Kaso pag Windows puro crash mangyayari

thanks guy for the quick reply.

il try to fix the capacitor.

ive already ask a friend of mine regarding the 3sge ecu. the problem is he doesnt have one for an a/t 3sge engine. sigh.

i do hope it gets fixed by replacing the small capacitor.

that would be nice. sana parang nag kakabit lang ng video card or changing memory modules hehehe.

kung meron ka soldering iron and solder remover, dapat marunong ka din mag solder ha, alisin mo muna yung capacitor dun sa board tapos nilisin mo yun paligid, using a VOM check mo yung printed circuit sa board baka may putol na, better palitan mo na ng bago yung capacitor, make sure na same rating sila, kung di mo naman kaya eh dalhin mo na lang sa mga gumagawa ng electronics kaya nila palitan yan basta bantayan mo lang

as i can see from your picture yung pinaka malaki damage eh mukhang may 3 lines ng circuit ang nadamay so check mo yun
