Perhaps, the age of the battery needs consideration.
The most common bateries used now ar the start up batteries. These batteries have very tiny threads of lead and copper that if the batteries are discharged, the thread break and the battery life is drastically shortened since the threads cannot reform again.
This is unlike the deep cell batteries that have plates like the old old batteries when the charging mechanismwas stil the dynamo and not an alternator. The plates can still gather the lead of copper in solution to be part of the plate. This is very much unlike thee threads with our present starter batteries that are cut and can not reform.
Not sure now if Culmat still has the monopoly on the selling of battery "plates". Quote unquote kasi the "plates' are really a mesh of thread and copper threads. Not sure also if Culmat still sell two kinds of "plates". One if memory serves me right was called gauge 95 and the other some other gauge. One is thicker and has a guaranteed life of 2 years while the thinner gauge has a guarantee of only 6 months and if properly cared for a maximum guarantee of a year. The thicker gauged plates has a maximum guarantee of two years but according to my battery specialist can actually last to five years given the proper maintenance.
If the batteries that was drained does not function well either have th plates changed if possibl or if not, anew battery is a must for dependability.
