Also, kung magawan ko ng paraan, I'd like to cram a bigger, heftier 3SM/125D31L battery in there (1GD Innova). Reason being, a 3SM battery is actually cheaper even though it packs a bigger capacity over the DIN74, all else being equal.

    The only problem is fitment.

The terminals, battery tray and holder for this vehicle are designed to take DIN66 or DIN74 batteries. Though, I've seen other people do it, I will have to give this more thought, making sure nothing is being compromised.
If ma try mo hanapan fitment method tong 3SM, game changer talaga.
I asked the technician ano pagkaiba sa 3SM compare to DIN series.
Yung connection lang daw sa duol ang difference aside from fitment.

I am currently observing the 2SM battery installed on my MU-X, Yuasa brand.
Kaka 1 yr lang nito last November, hopefully tatagal.
As of this writing, malakas pa naman redundo.

Just took a look... mukhang yung terminal posts are dimensionsionally similar. The only issue now is the battery case size differences. The 3SM is both longer and taller than the DIN74, so two potential constraints exists:

    1. The plastic battery tray has a lip on the edge. DIN74 fits perfectly within. However, a 3SM will go over the lip and damage it. It's really just superficial but the OC in me would rather work around this. I'm thinkng, maybe putting a hard rubber mat of sufficient thickness inside the tray would prop up the battery just enough to clear the tray lip.
    2. The hold-down rods might not be long enough. Especially if I'm going to prop up the 3SM battery a few millimeters pa. Anyway, pwede naman bumili ng mas-mahaba, I guess?

I think, magagawan ng paraan and have it not damage anything.

How much room do you have between the battery terminals and the hood seeing the the 3SM is much taller?

There's a lot of room. You can still fit half a battery, I think. The battery isn't the highest point under the hood.

It's about 1 cm longer than the 3SM and about 4 cm longer than the DIN74. And it's also in the 10k price point already.

The thing is, I'm sorta trying to game the system. Call me petty but if it means getting that last drop of capacity for a cheaper price, I've won. lol

Here's the beef... For some reason, the lower-capacity DIN-type batteries are more expensive than the higher capacity JIS batteries.

Got these prices from one online store. Compare their CCA, AH and price:
    Amaron Pro DIN74 (690CCA, 74AH): 8,750
    Amaron Pro DIN80 (730CCA, 80AH): 10,100
    Amaron Pro 3SM/125D31L JIS (775CCA, 95AH): 8,550

Putting it on a battery maintainer every weekend seems to help a lot.

    Added distilled water.

Health check after resting overnight and before adding distilled water.

Final health check after a top-up charge.

Ilang taon at km run na yang casa stock battery na motolite mo ?

Recently bought an Amaron battery 2SM for a rarely used Diesel SUV.
I will see how good it is since the SUV is rarely used mostly once a week lang.

This would be my 3rd or 4th Amaron battery that i have bought all of which has lasted until i sold those cars. Average of 3-4 years.

It would benefit the battery if you put a battery maintainer on it, especially if it's not going to be used for days/weeks, or even longer.

The price is not cheap. Yung available for 2SM cost around 6k pero mataas ang capacity 80Ah at 660CCA. Meron din sila EFB type for start stop nasa 8k for 2SM.
