I just found out that Mercury Battery Industries Inc. is also owned by Philippine Batteries Incorporated the owner and manufacturer of the Motolite brand, they bought that company a very long time ago. Philippine Batteries Incorporated manufactures the Yokohama brand under license from Malaysia then it looks like their subsidiary company is the one in charge to manage & distribute the Yokohama brand in the Philippine market.

How about those tuflong batteries? They say it's from Japan (supposedly made use of Hitachi tech).

    but tuflong doesn't sound japanese.

hitachi batteries officially changed name to tuflong in 2020.

there is a history of the monicker "tuflong", but i can not seem to remember it... tough and long lasting...?

My Panasonic DIN88 battery will be 2 yrs next month.
18 mos. lang binigay warranty nito, ang mahal pa naman at 10k.

Yung indicator sign is for service na daw.
Tinop upan ko nalang ng distilled water and charge with my battery maintainer charger.
Observe ko pa if I can still squeeze more from this battery, hopefully tatagal pa kahit 1 yr man lang goods na ako considering sa price.

Ganito ba talaga kamahal DIN88 and up batteries?

Don't think about other brands anymore, just go with Amaron. It lasts minimum 5 yrs+ parati, I just had my 50k PMS and had casa check my Amaron battery which I bought in 2021, lakas pa din daw.

The 12-month warranty on the factory battery ended a few days ago. SOH is still good at over 90%, so I'm hoping this would last at least another 6-12 months... despite it being a Motolite.

Putting it on a battery maintainer every weekend seems to help a lot.

    Added distilled water.

Health check after resting overnight and before adding distilled water.

Final health check after a top-up charge.

Blue-labeled Motolite Gold are factory-supplied OEM batteries with only 1 year warranty.

I know but since it's a gold series it probably will last at least 21 months. They just labeled it in blue just so it's recognized as OEM spec or battery from the casa. I reckon the internals are the same.

    But I may be wrong.

TBH, I'm not even sure if this was really made by Motolite, much less it being a 'Gold'. I know it's just marketing but AFAIK, the retail Motolite Gold of this type never comes with a translucent case.

I might just be splitting hairs but I think that this is just a rebadge of a cheaper-than-Gold battery.

And would probably explain why it looks like it will last longer than 1 year. Ha!

Iyong sub brand Ng motolite na binansagan nilang "mega force" ay 6 months Ng beyond its "expiration date" . Inaantay ko na Lang mag hard starting at papalitan ko na. May abang na na 3sm battery as supplement for the 2sm in-car batt trade-in. Siguro Naman malaki-laking discount iyon 😅

I'm going with Amaron when it's time to change. Motolite (which is more expensive than Amaron), has no chance getting my business. lol

Also, kung magawan ko ng paraan, I'd like to cram a bigger, heftier 3SM/125D31L battery in there (1GD Innova). Reason being, a 3SM battery is actually cheaper even though it packs a bigger capacity over the DIN74, all else being equal.

    The only problem is fitment.

The terminals, battery tray and holder for this vehicle are designed to take DIN66 or DIN74 batteries. Though, I've seen other people do it, I will have to give this more thought, making sure nothing is being compromised.

    +1 on the Amaron.

Yeah, just make sure it will fit and can be held in place securely due to potential damage to the hood, etc.

My last Amaron 3SM (115D31L) was in my older Innova. It had slightly lesser capacity than the 125D31L but lasted 5 years and a week. But since I was already considering to sell the car then, I just bought the cheaper Mega Force 3SM (95D31L) to replace it. Good thing I did because about a year later, the vehicle got sold.

Cheaper brands than Motolite but reliable as well
