    for some reason...

when i have my tail lights on and step on the brake, the right tail light goes out and the left brake light lights up...

and when i have my tail lights off and step on the brake, the brake lights seem to work fine...

where can i get this checked? will it cost alot? thanks...

    year?, make? model? mileage?
check your ground wire to the right tail/brake light. check for corrosion, looseness, broken wire strands ( these primary wires usually have 15 strands of copper). do you have the seven wire system(the brake light is also used as signal-characterized by no amber lens for turn signal)? if it is, check the double filament bulb for improper installation.
