I thought Geely was one of the highest-selling Chinese car brands in the country?

sana naman hindi susunod yung mga ibang casa to fold. is the overhead cost too high, and has the hype subsided for this particular brand?

It seems that the dealership closure is permanent though rather than operations stopping temporarily to prepare for the management change.

From a comment (Magnate Martin) on the Geely Marites FB page's post about the issue.

perhaps they are re-evaluating the company's local exposure, to come up with a more cost-effective... attitude.

IMO... Geely Philippines is in a really tough place right now.

Coolray made a lot of noise when it was released... pero its 5 years old now. No info if a 2nd Gen is coming... (Territory is already on its 2nd Gen)
Azkarra sold here is still the previous Gen
Okavango has its following - pero not enough

Next 2 cars released by Geely PH were the Emgrand and the GXPro - we all know how hard it is to compete against the Vios/City/Mirage and the Raize

IMO, Geely PH needs a new Coolray.

Not to mention the aftersales fiascoes (which went viral last year) definitely hit sales. IIRC, the North EDSA dealership was the one involved on one of the complaints.

My sis-in-law took advantage of another branch's change-management sale and got her Azkarra for 1.1M. That's 600k savings and was too good to pass up as she was already looking for a replacement and the Azkarra was top on her list. Hope she made the right decision given this major shakeup.

They could introduce the PHEV variant of the Emgrand (since the CHDM coolray PHEV is already discontinued probably for it to be updated with the new 4 cylinder engine)

Sojitz G Auto turns over Geely PH operations to GAIC
Yesterday, Sojitz G Auto Philippines (SGAP) announced they will close the Geely North EDSA dealership starting July 31, 2024. Serving as the company's flagship location, the decision to close it down came to us as a surprise. Fast forward to today, and we find out the reason behind it.

Sojitz G Auto Philippines (SGAP) and Geely Automotive International Corporation (GAIC) recently announced the official handover of Geely Philippines' operations to GAIC, effective July 2024. The transition, which started last July 1, 2024, highlights the brand's management change moving forward.

Since 2019, SGAP served as Geely's partner in the Philippines as it expanded the brand's presence in the country and its market share. SGAP initially launched the Coolray and Azkarra crossover SUVs. It was then joined by the Okavango MPV and was followed by the Emgrand sedan. SGAP also put up nearly 40 dealerships in the country since the brand's arrival in 2019.

For GAIC, the partnership with SGAP has been pivotal in introducing and growing the Geely brand in the Philippine market. Widespread consumer adoption, along with the brand's continued presence in the country, reflects the success and camaraderie in our collaboration. Geely and Sojitz G Auto Philippines jointly announced a strategic shift today.

“We are proud of our achievements with Geely. Now that we are handing the business over to GAIC, we are confident in their ability to elevate the brand. We express our most profound gratitude to our valued customers, esteemed dealer partners, and industrious employees and anticipate Geely’s continued success in the Philippines,” said SGAP in a company statement.

Despite SGAP turning over Geely Philippines to GAIC, all Geely dealers in the country will continue to operate and invite customers to experience the brand.

“We extend our utmost appreciation for the successful experience with Sojitz G Auto Philippines, which has greatly contributed to Geely’s growth in the country. We are thrilled to assume Geely’s operations with continuous focus and passions. By leveraging our global strengths, we will introduce products meeting Filipino consumers’ needs. We commit to a seamless transition and continuing SGAP’s legacy of excellence,” said GAIC in a statement.

With GAIC taking over Geely Philippines, we will be keeping a close eye on what the automaker will do in the coming months.

Geely finally getting the restart it deserves in the Philippines | Autoindustriya

That new development has arrived: the new company is Geely Motor Philippines Corporation.

For months now, we’ve been trying to verify if Geely had already applied for their SEC registration, but to no avail. We have been told that there have been complications and unexpected hurdles regarding the company being established, which explains the delay and how quiet the brand has been in 2024.

all-electric crossover that’s stylish, high-tech and is gunning against the likes of the BYD Atto 3. Built on the brand’s newest electrified platform called Global Intelligent Electric Architecture (GEA), the EX5’s chassis makes use of the latest technologies that take advantage of lightweight construction, a more compact electric drive system, multi-energy layouts, and precise handling.

Geely EX5 appears on DOE’s list of recognized EVs, PH launch soon? | Autoindustriya

Based on the DOE’s listing, the Geely EX5 comes with a 60.22 kWh battery pack which powers a single electric motor that makes 160 kW or 218 PS. Torque output was not mentioned although we won’t be surprised if it’s at 320 Nm - just like in China. Recharging the EX5 can be done via a Type 2 CCS port that supports both AC and DC fast charging.

Frankly, I don't know who'll be buying these cars.

Aside from the body work in case of collision, nobody knows how to repair or maintain these cars. Casa lang.
Sabihin na natin even if electric or even hybrid cars are the future, matatagalan yan here in the 3rd world. Pang 1st world lang talaga yang mga yan.

Bibili lang niyan yung tipong really rich, who could possibly care less about their purchase (disposable lang) but the average upper middle class consumer, probably not.

Anyone remember when LPG powered cars and conversion shops abounded in the metro? Asaan na lahat ng units niyan ngayon? What about the supporting infrastructure (LPG stations & the like)? All gone.
