Yup. ang banking industry pa rin ang gumagamit ng cobol.

Need a refresher course.

Madalang na ito. Malamang CICS Cobol yan kung bangko. You could inquire sa IBM or better yet sa APC school. http://www.apccenter.edu.ph/cobol

The bank themselves usually conduct internal training.

para san? madali naman aralin ang COBOL itself. ang konti lang ng syntax nito. usually may mga bootcamp yung mga company(bpi, accenture, sli, etc.)

as for kung meron pa nito, yup. majority ng mga financial institutions eh cobol pa rin ang gamit. pag mainframe, cics ang online and cobol pa rin ang batch. most ITO companies meron pa rin hawak na cobol consultants.

Last time that I encountered COBOL was during my elementary years. I was learning BASIC programming then, and the other class was learning COBOL. I never got to learn it, LOTUS 123 and Advanced BASIC na yung next na kinuha ko. Never thought na buhay pa pala ang COBOL. Yung BASIC kaya, may gumagamit pa?

Maniwala ka may mga legacy systems ng bangko na BASIC pa. Business Basic sa Unix. I was a COBOL programmer dati, pati Basic, Fortran, RPG. Then sa PC, xBase, Clipper, Foxpro. Then nag-evolve into Powerbuilder and eventually VB.

It has been nearly 10 years since I stopped programming. Nag evolve na rin ako.

if that's the case. subukan mo mag apply sa accenture. baka tumatanggap pa sila ng career shifter at baka may bootcamp pa sila. pero expect na bonded ka, 2 years ata bond sa accenture. accenture madalas tumanggap kahit non-it ung course then train na lang nila kung san ka nila tingin pwede.

Thanks, one more thing is it too late to go back on this work cos I'm already at my 30's (30 to be exact). Well my currently IT though (TSR).
