Hello Tsikot peeps! Am seeking advice regarding a career decision… I’ll give the scenario first. I’m a mech’l engr, 27 yrs old and currently employed in 1 of the largest multinational company in semiconductor industry for more than 3 yrs now. Compensation, benefits are ok. No complains whatsoever… but the thing is and the reason behind I took up mech’l engineering course is to be employed in the automotive industry. I have long dreamt of being employed in one. (not the dealership stuff) I want to be in a plant where all the technical stuff are… last year I applied in one of the Japanese automotive firms which have a plant in the laguna area. (2nd largest jap carmaker worldwide). To make the story short, they tried to hire me. But they only matched my salary from my current job, which
kind of disappointed me and decided to stay…

Last week I saw a job opening in the same jap company and I again applied. They’ve reached me already and scheduled me for an interview tom… I’m not sure what would be the result but I’m a little confident that I have chance (same position I applied for last yr).
My question is, if you were in my position… money not an issue now… what would you do? Will you be willing to take the risk to start over again? Sacrifice your length of service?… me personally, if ever I make it again. I’m leaning towards accepting their offer… but still having second thoughts. Need advice guys, especially those tsikoteers who are very successful now… from your experience what career path would you follow? Thanks guys!

GO with your heart bro! which will eventually lead to your happiness sa work. At your age, bata ka pa naman, wag mong panghinayangan ang maiiwan mong current work basta you're sure of what lies ahead. Mas mahirap kapag napag-isipan mong lumipat when you reach 30+, mas maraming considerations yun pag nagkataon. Good Luck!

I would agree with those who suggested that you follow your heart. After all, it is a lot easier to succeed if you love what you are doing.

That said, I would recommend you map out your desired career path in increments - 5 years, 10 years, 20 years down the line, including your ultimate career goal. After all it is extremely difficult to reach your destination if you do not know where you are going.

Then ascertain the career paths open to you if and when you work for the company. Does your personal planned career path match up with it? If not, are you willing to adjust your career goals just to avail of the opportunity? While it may pay to be flexible, bear in mind life is what actually happens while we are busy planning for it. Old cliche that has been proven time and again.

Ultimately you do not want to live your life and then have regrets or what if sentiments at the end. Carpe diem! But do so with prudence.

    Good luck!

"If you love your job you dont have to work for the rest of your life"

Just be sure this is what you really want. Be specific on what you want in the automotive field and specialize your self towards it.

At your age now is the time to gamble to ensure your future.

    Just Do it!!

    Good Luck!

i've read in some management journals that these days, money is not the first option why an employee chooses to stay with the company. although, in reality it is, its, i think, at the top three reasons.

the top reason why an employee chooses to stay with a company is opportunities for career and professional growth... second is good working environment which does not create stress during working hours.
follow your heart bro... this is the best advice i can give you.

Just do it! You're still young. Besides, the fact that you gave this a serious thought means that you are open to the idea...just my two cents. Actually, you don't really 'need' the advise of successful tsikoteers. I think what you are actually looking for is some form of inspiration and motivation.

As they say, 'sometimes, the best helping hand is a good, firm push'... Good luck!
