May I know what pain exactly you mean? What damage do you assume will happen with the adhesive mounted?
Speaking of damage - I had a suction cup for my phone mount before. It totally ruined my car's tint on the part where I usually stuck it.
So between double-sided tape and a suction cup, I'd take the tape.

Hmm so I found a spare battery for my old SJ4000. I wonder if I should just stick with this low-res dashcam and resell the 0805.
I only bought a new one cuz the SJ's battery got bloated. I know I could've just bought a new batt but I splurged a little and bought a new dashcam.
This was the old battery. Second time it happened. Average lifespan of the battery before it bloats is about 1 year or 35,000 km of driving.

Thanks! Been aching to install my Yi, still waiting for the SD delivery. Medyo bulky yung suction cup nga, mas ok yung adhesive para almost hidden setup.
Anyway since you mentioned you never remove it, hindi ba siya hirap sa init?
May personal experience na ako sa Li-ion batts (18650 ba un)/ I was hacking a power bank and accidentally shorted the circuit.
I have covered parking but of course we face the same exposure when the car is driven and occasionally parked outside. You can still unclip it if you are worried about long-term damage from heat exposure. Anyway since you mentioned you never remove it, hindi ba siya hirap sa init? There are actually two issues with the Yi regarding heat that came up when I was reading reviews:
1) The Yi allegedly loses focal clarity when it is recording under extreme temperatures. I won't be surprised as the unit runs a little warm already even at night with the aircon on. Notice also the large vents at the top and bottom of the unit for convection cooling. Maybe recording at a lower resolution like 720p (or not using the 1080p 60 fps feature) will help in addition to turning off Wifi and ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System). I record at 1080p 30 fps and leave Wifi always on and it does warm up a little.
2) Some early owners have reported that the lithium polymer battery bloats when constantly exposed to heat. This causes the casing to bulge and sometimes crack open at the seams. Later versions appear to be more trouble-free. This is the reason why dashcam reviewers always recommend cams that use capacitors instead of rechargeable batteries.
I've had the Yi for only over a month so I have no meaningful data point to contribute. Siguro sa summer talaga magkaka-alaman. I'm just hoping that having covered parking and full tints will somewhat mitigate these heat-related issues. Transcend dashcams are supposedly excellent at withstanding high operating temperatures.
Btw, the Yi uses 3M's VHB (Very High Bond) adhesive. This is the same tape used in many stick-on aftermarket parts. This is meant to be as strong as a permanent mechanical bond but madali lang naman tanggalin ito with petroleum solvent - usually WD40 or its equivalents. I would think that removing it in the future will not ruin the tint.
This is one of my dashcams. Very small, clean and very nice night apperture.

May iba pa bang option imount ang ddpai? Like ikabit sa rear view mirror stalk?
hi,
I'm planning to buy one as a gift, and it looks like the best option for the price.
Installed and tested Viofo WR1 dash cam to Mitsubishi ASX. The WR1 has Sony IMX323 sensor, Novatek 96655 chipset, capacitor power, 160 degree FOV, and built-in WIFI. Video quality is good. I am satisfied.

After a month with the Mini 0805, no doubt this is the best dashcam you can buy for 3.5k!
- Video quality is superb, definitely beats even the more expensive Transcend DP220 in night time video. Even if I have 3M CS20 tint on my windshield, I can still read plate numbers easily at night.
- GPS works very well and this is the only dashcam at this price range with the feature
- Small form factor makes it very unobtrusive and sleek
The only drawback I've observed is that it's a bit choosy with the SD card you use. I tried a class A Samsung SD and it would have an I/O error every now and then. I switched tomy orig Samsung Evo, and it had worked perfectly ever since.
