lemme hazard a guess.

he took off the glare guard.
put on the HID.
'twas a rainy night when he decided to test it out.
couldn't see that much

(1) oops. blinded by the scattered light. didn't see anything, hit something.

(2) oops. blinded incoming motorists, causing them to dazzle him with high beams, hit something.
