They all explode when short-ckted. 18650's can be repacked/replaced easily. Poly doesn't have a standard form-factor while 18650 is universal. Imagine kung may calamity wala kuryente you could just swap the batteries from the car to the UPS/inverter and other 18650 operated devices.
