If you look at Tesla's lineup and compare local price with US price sometimes our cars are even cheaper.

I'm not jumping on it right now, but I'll definitely get an EV before the tax breaks expire.

Same, Im definitely getting one before the tax breaks expire. I would consider either the Base Model 3, Sealion 6, or I'd play it somewhat safe and get a Corolla Cross. However things move so fast you never know whats available in 2-3 years. Two to three years ago all you could buy was a nearly 3m Nissan Leaf, gray market Teslas, and some other niche vehicles.

Yeah a friend's dad got into EVs with a BMW iX, but quickly sold it then got into BYDs.
He said not worth it keeping a luxury EV since even the cheaper ones are just as good, plus tech is moving pretty fast so depreciation hits hard.

If it depreciates 50% in 5 years, then you lose 3.2M with a 6.5M car, which is enough to buy a whole BYD Han/Seal or Tesla model Y/3.

Tesla's are relatively cheap because they use a Direct to Consumer Sales practice. No middle man, no added dealer profits.
Added bonus for Tesla are they have OTA updates. New features get added up from time to time. Some useful others are just added entertainment all without paying, other than the internet used to connect.

When was the last time a feature was added to your Toyota car without any cost to the consumer, of course if its being replaced under warrant is another matter.

    BYD also have OTA updates.
Unfortunately, what I saw in socmed was that their BYD won't start/run because it needs an update to be completed.
But cannot complete the update because the data signal was crappy due to it was parked in the basement.

Im assuming Tesla might also encounter this issue.

Maybe this can be fixed if there's an option to turn off auto update?

Geely's Generation C is about to be launched.

200hp and 310Nm on a compact EV hatchback weighing 1.7 tons sounds like a good ride. I find the exterior styling a bit bland, though, but I do like the minimalist interior.

True. Most EV actually have OTA updates.
Buti nga BYD made it OTA.

MY EV and other EV's here in the Phil. currently requires a visit to the casa for the Update. it is free naman hassle lang yung time spent.

the only downside with OTA nga is that just like a cellphone you can't run it until matapos yung Update and installation.

Since they have software and thus require files or data to operate, it's quite possible they can become affected by virus.

I've also read that it's possible to override the system. For example, if they're not safe to use on public roads or if one of them was involved in criminal activities, then their respective makers can program the cars to avoid them from running, have them shut down, be given restrictions or something like that.
