You need at least 500cc more in a diesel to be comparable with a gas engine in terms of hp.

mas malakas pa nga to compared sa crosswind xto na 2.5L 4JA1, 80 hp/3900rpm and * 170 Nm/3200 . factor-in the difference in weight of a crosswind vs. the relatively smaller body of the matrix... baka humaharurot sa highway yan!

According the sales agent at the Manila Motorshow, the best mileage they got was 31Km/L. But he was quick to point out that these were under controlled conditions (i.e. regulated speed, moderate acceleration, that sort of stuff).

actually i became interested in this car since i learned it from internet publications even before it landed here in the Phils. i like the car because of the engine, not really the looks and size. again the only thing you need to watch out is the dirty diesel fuel from our gas stations. better kung bibili ka maglagay ka na ng 2 extra fuel filters naka series sa fuel line. by this, maprevent mo or madedelay mo yung pagloloko ng fuel injectors pagdating ng 25,000 kms. though this may void the warranty pakiusapan mo yung dealer baka pwede gawin.

A sedimentor would be a great addition to protect your injectors. My Mazda 2200 has a sedimentor that requires you to drain it every 100,000k. But I drain it every oil change. You can really see the dirt, water and other contaminants once you drain it. At times, I have to poke the sedimentor drain hole repeatedly with a GI wire just to drain the sedimentor.

buti pa siya he was quick to point that out...unlike some advertisements lately.

Guys, to clarify things up, Hari released the Matrix CRDi in 2003 based on the 2.0 Tucson's engine. What they did was take the Tucson's engine, took a cylinder away, and voila: the result was a 3-cylinder, 12 valve CRDi with 82bhp/4000 and 178Nm/2000.

It was torquey but was slow as hell as it took 16-18 seconds to reach the 100km/h mark. They phased it out and used the engine instead for their first diesel Getz.

The Matrix released in 2005 (the one I have and the one available now) has a 4-cylinder, 16 valve engine with variable-geometry-turbine capable of delivering 102-105bhp/4000rpm and 235/2000rpm and reaching the 100km/h mark in 11.02 seconds or better.

This very same engine is going to be released as well on the facelifted Getz although I'm not sure why they advertised 110bhp/4000rpm and 245Nm/2000.
