My brother is doing this thesis on biodiesel...If its really and advantage or not, and he needs the inputs of us users here sa tsikot. He is having a hard time running this survey coz most of the motorists still doesnt know this product. Kindly give me naman ur inputs:

Effects of biodiesel:
Do we still need it since our fuel here in the Phils are now less sulfur?
Nga pala, we both read a study on biodiesel at the site of betan calibration and from what we've read, parang negative ang effects nito contrary to what other sites say. http://betancalibration.com/whatsnew.htm
What can you say about this?

Biodiesel used since? Since the tsikot anniv/eb sa fort
Effects of biodiesel: Smoother engine idle, better response (Seat of the pants feel)
Do we still need it since our fuel here in the Phils are now less sulfur? Yes. To bring down the cost!. ehehe
Thanks HBOY. Aside from the cost ofcommercial diesel, what other factors can you enumerate for biodiesel to be significant here in the philippines? Is it superior to the low sulfur diesels in the market? Ang argument kasi ng bro ko is that its significant pero marami ang nagsasabi sa kanya na hindi na raw since we now have "less sulfur diesels" in the market (environmental aspect).
aside from the cost.... it will help our farmers... especially those with coconut plantations... why?.. eto ang source ng biodiesel... in other countries they use rapeseed (UK).. dito sa atin.. abundant ang biodiesel.. imagine if we can tap that resource and commercialize it!.... we have buko juice as well as buko-diesel.. este biodiesel... our need to import our supplies will be lessened, hence less burden to the public.. especially to the jeepney and bus drivers na reklamo na lang ng reklamo with the rising gas prices.
Now if you want to recycle things.. then go WVO (Waste Veggie oil).. meaning ang pinaglutuan... itetreat mo (with some chemicals, nilagay dun sa forum kung ano kailangan, at pwedeng DIY) imagine that... you can have your own diesel brewery at home.
I am not a chemist.. so i cannot really justify the difference between regular diesel and biodiesel.. i would think that it would be better if you get a breakdown of both.. and then from there formulate the result of the research.
I tried goign almost 100% biodiesel.. when i almost ran out of regular diesel hehehe.. tinamad bumili.. kaya kinarga ko na lang yung natitirang 10L sa carryboy ko.. ayun.. ganda ng hatak.. for my old car.. ramdam ang difference.. duno nga lang sa mga bagong diesels.
All these are based on my experience.. no scientific proof whatsoever... i am just glad biodiesel is here.. kasi nga mas maganda/masaya ang takbo ng kotse ko dun.

Effects of biodiesel: Virtual elimination of white smoke emissions. Peppy engine response. Recently had my 25,000km PMS and asked the casa to check whether the fuel filter already had to be replaced --malinis pa daw. Exclusvely used with SeaOil low-sulfur "pure diesel" at a 5% blend, always from the same service station (SeaOil EDSA near corner Quezon Avenue).
Do we still need it since our fuel here in the Phils are now less sulfur? From what I understand in past threads here on this topic, biodiesel adds lubricity to the engine, which is needed since low-sulfur diesel has reduced lubricity (diesel experts, please correct me if i'm wrong). Aside from this reason, I feel we still need biodiesel to further improve the quality of diesel engine emissions, as it seems to be a more environment-friendly fuel than regular diesel.

Biodiesel used since? Only used it for 3 months.
Effects of biodiesel: Very good acceleration, smoke, emission.
Do we still need it since our fuel here in the Phils are now less sulfur? N/A, nasa US of A na ako.
Djerms,
All the articles in our whats new page are articles which we borrowed from several websites and very reliable sources with their permission. It is not our own finding or conclusion. But based on my personal experience, I'd give it a two thumbs up.

Biodiesel used since - 3rd quarter of 2003
Effects of biodiesel: lower K factor (opacity) i.e lower harmful emissions. (40-50%lower). Low SUlfur Diesel + B5 BD.
Do we still need it since our fuel here in the Phils are now less sulfur? One thing for sure, we don't have to shun it. We have to continue developing it because the raw materials are biodegradable, renewable, non-toxic and most of all, locally AVAILABLE. Imagine if we can replace just a small part of the total volume diesel we consume, gaganda price ng copra and we can contribute in alleviating the poverty in the countryside. Suntok sa buwan but we have to start somewhere. Huli tayo lagi (3rd world country kasi). Sa Europe they are using this for several years na. Low sulfur Diesel suffer from low lubricity so they have to add additives to solve this. BD can increase lubricity dramatically even at 1%. IMHO

Using biodiesel since January 2003.
effects of biodiesel : same as the others, better acceleration, less smoke, sometimes, engine rev is quieter... not all the times. this is kinda puzzling.
pero I can attest to the need to the advantage of biodiesel in terms of engine power and in terms of less polluting effect. eto nakwento ko na kay Doc Diesel via email. I attended the DOE dyno testing of biodiesel last year. test engine was a C240 isuzu. they checked the power band from low rev to redline rev (600 rpm to 4000 rpm). and they also checked the opacity of the smoke coming out from the exhaust. results: 2-3% increase in HP at almoast all RPM's. The emission tests were kinda inconclusive though. dalawa instrument na ginamit nila non. yung isa , lower emissions daw, yung isa naman, higher NOx. meron conflict sa sampling protocol na ginamit kaya di conclusive. But in a separate test done in Japan, cocodiesel does lessen the opacity/emissions. The clincher here is... they compared it vs. LSD (low sulfur diesel).
So I answer yes! we still need it. If you'll go over the site given by HBOY on the biodiesel discussions in other parts of the world, you'll find out that a lot of people are already into this. The malaysians are already looking into this. The Japanese are definitely going for it, if they want to fulfill the provisions of the Kyoto protocol on lowering emissions of cars.

Biodiesel used since? October 2002
Effects of biodiesel: Cleaner emission; better combustion/fuel burn, good acceleration, smoother throttle response
Do we still need it since our fuel here in the Phils are now less sulfur? More so we need it because lower sulfur means lower diesel lubricity which is bad for the engine.
Verdict: Excellent Product
Update: Pres. GMA will sign into EO next month a law that will require all oil companies to blend 1% biodiesel in their diesel products.
Woodfire,
Thats definitely great news! Pero sana 5% blend na...hehe.
Sir OT nga pala: Have you sold your strada already? I kept on texting you about it.
Doc D,
Salamat sa pagtiyaga mo to answer my questions on biodiesel yesterday (kahit na 12am na sa US of A).

Effects of biodiesel: Better fuel combustion, better fuel economy, less vibration and noise at idle, better startups: no smoke, smoother acceleration, better response, NO SMOKE at 3K - 3.5K rpm. :D
Do we still need it since our fuel here in the Phils are now less sulfur? We need it more than ever. Less sulfur = less lubrication = more engine damage. Even though we do have less-sulfur-fuels, this still doesn't guarantee the imrpoved combustion BD offers. I still say, " heck I may be spending more, but over what BD gives my engine its more than enough! "

master woodfire, medyo nag back track ang gobyerno about this EO. Last November, yan sana gusto nila pero di natuloy. ang revised proposal nila, is to require all government owned vehicles, the military included, to used 1% blend of cocodiesel in their diesel. this will be done for a 6 month period. parang ito yung magiging test period nila. During this time, the lead gov. agency, DOE, will collect data. After the test period, saka palang gagawing requirement sa private sector. Nakita ko yung draft EO, pati yung draft ng IRR (implementing rules and regulations) of the EO. Jan 21 supposed to be yung deadline for revising the EO. Ewan na kung ano nangyari. updating your update
rsnald: bro thanks sa update.
djerms: ok dalhin ko sa EB bukas. hope ok yung thesis.
