Starex Gen 3 (toward 2004-2005). Had power, ride comfort and flexibility.
+1 on that, the Starex GRX has performance that can put SUVs and compact cars to shame. And then by 2005, the Hiace Commuter came out, a modern and worthy van by my standards, it just doesn't have as much power and ride comfort as the GRX.
Hyundai Starex... (2004-onwards)
Toyota Previa (local release, 2nd gen)
IMHO the Starex before 2004, the Millenium edition, had a turbo intercooler engine which makes just 85hp (or was it 100 already for the intercooled version? I'm not so sure). Anyways, it was a bit underpowered. A friend's Starex which was fully laden with 10 people and their luggage had a hard time climbing Baguio and could hardly do 140km/h at the expressway. The GRX variant with the 145hp CRDi engine was produced from 2004-2007.
ok..I'm in search of a family van now but I don't intend to get a brand new unit since our driver will be driving it too...
Sayang kung starex tapoos driver lang mag-drive kaya versa van cross my mind... the van will be use for outings, picnics, school rides.. etc... because I do have an avanza for my daily drive...
The dilemma is.. my wife is also asking for another avanza for herself... two avanza/s at home make it very not practical (i think) that;s why I'm in the market for scouting another 2nd hand unit....
Can anyone suggest what unit I should get?
Would it be wise to get a van for myself and for family use? or should I settle for another avanza which in times, we could divide the house pag may activities?

Really damn underpowered105HP Turbo Charged Intercooler (TCi) version.
We had 2 millenium edition. Isang 2000 SVX M/T at 2003 Club A/T. Yung isa nauna nang umalis nyahahaha. Yung Club nalang andito.
Almost 1M or more than 1M yung price ng SVX CRDi A/T noon.. Tapos nasa 1.3M ang Club CRDi A/T.

Yun nga eh, I'd rather have the SVX CRDi, rather than the flat nosed GRX. CRDi pala yung SVX niyo eh... kaya naman matulin.Yung sa family friend namin ay 2000 Starex Club A/T
grabe ambagal...
Sa TS, the Starex is considered as a WORKHORSE VEHICLE in Korea. So, matibay talaga yan. And on the occasion that you want to drive it yourself, it is leagues more rewarding to drive compared to the Versa Van. At syempre, its also very comfortable and modern.

Hindi.. both TCi sila. Nasa tamang break-in at hataw lang at PMS. From 60K km to 170K km PMS, Hyundai E. Rod may hawak nung SVX M/T.

Wait... 170k kms?! At wala pang sampung taon yan?Eh bat yung engine pic may "CRDi" na nakasulat? On a side note nagagandahan parin ako sa face ng Millenium Starex. Timeless talaga.

In terms of look, the smaller eyed SVX units look better than the bug-eyed GRX units. And there are SVX units that have CRDi engines.
To the TS, how much is your budget? You could get 2005 GRX units with the CRDi lump for P500-600K.
I remember a friend back in 2008, when he drove our GRX for the first time. All he knew was that it was more powerful than before, but still looked bland. We took it for a spin in Clark. Ayun, puro mura ang inabot ko... sa tuwa niya. Hehehe! Bigla ba naman naghahanap ng Fortuner. Hamunin daw namin. It may not be as powerful, but it's lighter.
thanks sa mga replies..
my budget is around 300-400T... but then I could get a loan if I need to...
I found a 2006 GRX -Crdi at 680T w/ 70t mileage, manual trans... having 2nd thought kasi starex at times, I will ask my driver to use it.. parang nasasayangan ko..
And at 680T price, I could get a brand new L300 FB na rin..
Btw, I found a 2005 versa van at 330T only.. .relatively cheap as I browsed over the web, most ads of versa van are still being price at 400T up..

The L300 may be cheaper by half as compared to the GRX, but the power it makes is also less by half. 145 horses vs. 73 horses and even worse for the torque! 360N-m vs. 147N-m! The L300 versa van, IMO is too underpowered to take in 12 full sized folks with their stuff out of town. And it might even have a hard time going up parking ramps with that payload let alone steep mountain inclines. And of course, will you compare how the two look? The L300 is easily twenty years older!
Even if they sell a refreshed GRX now, it will still be mightily competitive in the passenger van market.

Why not a Grandis? Altho medyo pricey pa rin siya, but it is one hell of a looker.
Its nice, but it also guzzles gas like there's no tomorrow! Now if there was a Grandis Di-D... But then again, the Carnival is leagues better than or at least matches the Grandis whether it be space, modernity, comfort, performance or fuel efficiency.![]()
