ahh..lets pit them against each other:

    astra and optra.

both powered by almost the same engine,
both handled by almost crappy dealership,
    both subject to lemon,
both have sa resale value that rivals any nissan cars
both can be great cars and a pain in the ass
    both cars are under-rated.

and both are almost not worthy to have this threaded discussion.

if these are your only choices, which is it?

astra(sedan/wagon-all line-up and locally released editions)

    vs.

optra(sedan/wagon-->all line-up and locally released ed)

let the thread poster decide amongst these two....

ps: just leave the year model difference, ok?concentrate sa ride, handling, parts, maintence, and the ups&downs of the two only. data basis please. no flaming and minimize the OT.

Astra with Irmscher bodykits. hands down!!!

wagon or sedan... add to that the locally unavailable coupe and convertible.

and of course, im even talking about the 98-04 Astra not even the current one.

the Astra has always been the Ford Focus' nemesis and its a real German engineered. too bad, units here are poorly speced, overpriced, under rated and distributed by crappy dealerships.

Astras are relatively dependable, as far as Opels go, but I'd go for the newer car... Optra Wagon FTW!

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

No major problem yet as severe as the previous gen Civic's falling gas tank.

Not really, there are satisfied Optra owners, and suprisingly there are many new Optras running around(facelifted model).

True, but not as much as before, since there are already a lot of them on the road, its already been accepted as an alternative to the subcompact sedans. Optra is a compact sedan.
The base Optra 1.6 L starts at P681K
The more expensive 1.6 LS model comes standard with the ff:
    - Driver's Airbag
    - ABS
    - 4-wheel disc brakes
    - Five 3-point seatbelts
    - 60:40 split folding rear seats with height adjustable headrests
    - Fog lamps
    - 5 in-dash CD changer
    Prices start at P746K.

One odd thing... the more affordable Optra has independent rear suspension while the more expensive Astra uses a Torsion beam suspension similar to the Vios, City/Jazz and Altis.

That reminds me, the Optra LS can now be ordered with an "SS" bodykit(with rear spoiler) and 16 inch alloy wheels. Its an additional 47K over the standard LS.

The Astra has it's charms. It's not incredibly fast but it feels very solid.

But I guess I'd take the Optra wagon. It has the same safety features of the Astra (including front and rear foglamps), it has a roomier cabin and cargo bay. Plus the glove box is refrigerated. hehehe.

Thunder Automotive also carries Optra parts.

Ang Thunder na malapit sa atin ay along Quezon Avenue. Katabi ng Kia (near corner Araneta Ave.)

Meron din ata nito sa Binondo.

Ouch, sakit mo naman magsalita with regards to the cars mentioned... if you read all the posts/threads here at tsikot forum you can see that other cars like toyota, honda, mitsubishi, nissan, etc. also have the worse crappy dealership/service, they are also subject to lemon, with regards to resale value it depends how the car is being maintained, milages, year model etc...

furthermore, if you notice majority of those who criticize Optra's are the one don't even drive or owned one...

words "subject to", "can be", "are almost", were used by alwayz_yummy to define descriptions that could be subject for debate. So it can't be that bad. Peace! :victory:

BTW, if availability of parts ain't part of the comparo, both should do well. If it is, then both ain't a good buy as you tend to wait from 2 weeks to 2 months just to wait for parts that may or may not even arrive at all.

EDIT: Thanks Sir OTEP for the info. Sarap sampalin ng GM pag ung Thunder na 'to eh mas nagiistock pa ng parts ng Optra compared sa casas nila.

yun nga. yan ang di nacocover ng most comparo,e. i didnt say they're bad, pero may bad at good, just like any car.

hooked din naman ako sa cars na ito, i'm not brand concious kasi,e.. for data base ko po to. comparison lang. hirap icompare ung separates threads so made ako ng 1 straight comparo about this 2 uncommon, under-rated and under-appreciated beautiful cars. much much silang undervalued than nissan,e....so its a better buy sa 2ndhand market.
