What's impolite about my question? Nothing, as far as I can tell. You could have just replied "my mom wasn't serious when she said that, that's why I'm still buying a car."

And you yourself admitted to being too blunt when when you called the Vitara panget, knowing all along that there are Vitara owners here. There are SEVERAL "polite" ways to say that.
