    Hi, there.

I plan to get a baby SUV and have decided on the Tucson.

(I think its cute, I like the aqua silver color, and I can plug in my ipod. Sorry guys, it's a girl thing )

The thing is, I'm not sure whether to get the CRDi or the gas version. I keep hearing that diesel is cheaper, but...

The price difference is P130,000. Diesel is about P6.00 cheaper than Unleaded. It means I need to get roughly around 433 full tanks before I get a return on the additional investment.

Are there any other factors that I need to consider? Does the diesel version consume less fuel volume? Will it be easier to maintain?

I would really appreciate your thoughts on this. Thanks

433 full tanks is like... assuming 1 full tank a week, that's 108 months or almost TEN YEARS.

the diesel tucson would retain its value better though... pero am sure >5 years pa rin ang break-even point.

The CRDi version of the Tucson is a notch above its petrol powered counterpart. And yes, it consumes less fuel.

Please do read niky's take on the Tucson CRDi:

get the crdi. Though it only has 112hp over the gas 142hp, it has more torque and that's the thing you need more in a compact suv. FYI, the new tucson is the old santa fe body.

Try to add the FC of a gas versiona nd a crdi version.

Maintenance is another factor. I think mas mahal ang diesel.

If I have the budget to buy a tucson, I would go for the CRDI variant. Because of the additional power. :D

yup, the diesel engine consumes less fuel. as much as 40% less (sometimes even greater) than gas engines. so you have to factor that in too in your calculations. anyway, i estimate around 5-6 years nga ang bawi mo sa fuel/mileage savings.

in that light, if you plan to keep it longer, get the diesel. otherwise, the gas version would be more practical. take note also that diesel engines are usually over-engineered, thus heavier, to cope with the high compression, so its made to last for a long time. on the otherhand, it's still prone to spew smoke because of our dirty diesel fuels.

    personally, i'd get the diesel.

    good luck and hth

I got the crdi Sportage - and very happy with it. FC is very efficient, I get 8km/li city driving with morning and evening rush hour traffic and get 12-15km/li long provincial drives (to Baguio, Tagaytay and Batangas). Higher torque (meaning greater pulling power) and sportier drive quality are the other crdi advantages. The Sportage is the same Tucson in a different body (sharper looks, leather interiors and textured vinyl vs. the Tucson) and suspension package (sportier, harder tuned - which means a bit more matagtag but less body roll when cornering) plus 4wd vs. only 2wd Tucson.

Actually, in my test drive of the Tucson 4x2 CRDi, I noted that the ride was also firm. Body roll in turns was well controlled, and the chassis was as playful as a puppy.

But I think the Sportage might just be the better package. It's better looking on the inside, at least.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

    Dito pa la yung thread.
I am interested in the Tucson and weighing the option between the diesel and gas. How much is the maintenance cost of the diesel & gas tucson and fuel cost?

    TIA

Get the diesel, the gas is very thirsty. You'll save a lot in your gas bills due to much better fuel efficiency and the lower price of diesel. Maintenance for the diesel will be a bit higher due to a larger volume of motor oil for changing and more expensive engine components. Though I do not think much about this since it isn't everyday that you bring in your car for maintenance.

I will have a first-hand experience on a new Hyundai Tucson Premium Theta II this coming December 15, as to why ... secret.

I'll just tell you once I get hold of first-hand experiences such as the acceleration, engine vibration ( if any ), fuel consumption etc.

I think you have to buy another cable from Hyundai at around 2k.

CRDi is has a more expensive SRP + mas mahal maintenance cost compared to gas variant.(forgot by how much)
Get the 2.0 if your'e fine without 4WD.

Personally I'd get the gasoline variant if I plan to keep the car for around 4+ years.

Thanks genesischain for your inputs. I am weighing the comparison and the maintenance & fuel cost will definitely sway my decision. Hope somebody could fill me in with their expenses.

Thanks for the inputs. Based on some interviews and your inputs below is my sample computation and the difference of the fuel & maintenance cost around P39,000.

Average Monthly Distance 1,100 km Yearly Maint Cost
(Change Oil, etc) FC CityFC Hway
    Gasoline Cost 52 P/li 10,000.00 6 9 Tucson Gas Fuel Consumption
    Diesel Cost 46 P/li 16,000.00 9 14 Tucson Diesel Fuel Consumption

    90% 10% Ratio to City & Hi-Way Driving
Yearly Distance Travel 13,200 km 11,880 1,320 Estimated Distance Covered for City & Hi-Way Driving
    Yearly Fuel & Maint Cost
Tucson Gasoline Php120,586.67 1980.00 146.67 Liters Gasoline per Year
Tucson Diesel Php81,057.14 1320.00 94.29 Liters Diesel per Year

    Difference Php39,529.52

    Hope this is correct. Thanks

At some point maiisip mo makakatipid ka.

Very satisfied. Lakas ng torque.
