Subaru XV Base or Honda HR-V E ?

Hello everybody,

I will have to decide within the next couple of weeks so I would really appreciate input from people who might be in the same predicament as I am. This is the way I see it:

Pros:

XV -

AWD
Side airbags

Cons:

My mom already owns one
Not much toys inside
Smaller cargo area

HR-V

Pros:

Touch screen HU w/ reverse camera
Generally, more toys inside
Bigger cargo area

Cons:

FWD only
No side airbags
Ugly wheels

By the way, it will be 99% driven by my wife to ferry our son to and from school, malls, etc.

If it's primarily going to be used for shuttling kids to school, I guess a sub-compact or compact car will be more practical, not to mention cheaper. The HRV is built on the platform of the Jazz with a raised suspension and powered by the Civic's engine. It's priced way higher than it should be. If you want the extra luggage space for about the same price as the HRV, an Innova will be a good option or with discounts, you can get an MU-X or Montero Sport.

We've already ruled out bigger SUVs like the models you mentioned models since she finds them too big and cumbersome to drive daily.

Compact crossover SUV is a family car default that's why it's a crowded market.
Name a few Ecosport, Trax, I20, Juke, Renegade, Fiat 500X, Mini Countryman, HRV, ASX & XV & Korean crossover.
Ecosport is tiny.
Never to Cheapo Korean cars.
HRV is fresh & feature-loaded so with the price while ASX & XV are both aging models.
XV---only Porche & Subaru currently manufacturing boxer engine, why?
History revealed trouble in the long run, maybe it has been fix lately?
Honda Cars Philippines will drain your pocket, costly to maintain.
ASX -- Mitsu has axed safety features like ASC, HSA, ATC & even Smart Brake but price is lowered, a new 2016 model is coming.

XV has the mechanical edge, bigger engine, side airbags, AWD, and legit 220mm ground clearance. I've seen a few in Australia drive around in muddy terrain and it's pretty impressive considering it's really just an Impreza on stilts.

As for the HR-V, it's mostly just toys, don't like having too many of those in a vehicle. More things that break down in the long run. It's way overpriced for the amount of car you get.

If we didn't have an XV yet, I think I would be leaning towards it over the HR-V..

At least Honda was good enough to put the R18 engine on it. Just imagine if Honda decided to put the Jazz/City's L15 engine on it, it will surely be a much boring drive and FC will be really bad.

For the price of the EL CVT model (1.34M), the Nissan X-Trail 2WD (1.375M) or the Subaru Forester (1.398M) or the Honda CRV 2.0V (1.368M) will be a better proposition.

I briefly considered the CX-5 Pro, too. I think the price can be lowered to 1.3xx if you pay cash.

For its purported size, the interior seems really cramped compared to its rivals. Another sticking point for me is the battery. I read it costs around 13k and it's not readily available in our suking battery stores.

Tough call. I've always liked the XV, but the HRV looks like serious competition, not only for the XV but for other crossovers.

A competition in price maybe but not in overall value. The XV comes standard with AWD. The ASX FWD seems to be the best competition of the HRV. The Ecosport, CX3, and ix20 are the direct competition to the HRV, as these vehicles are practically subcompacts on stilts. The Sportage and Tucson may be priced about the same as the HRV but they are really more in the same category as the Forester, Xtrail, CX5, CRV, and RAV4.

Which has the larger interior volume, Honda HR-V or the CX-5?

If the Jazz has bigger interior volume than the Mazda3, then the HRV will be bigger inside than the CX5.

Mazda has the best interior. Dislike the current Honda interiors. Among the choices above the HR-V EL, Subaru Forester is the only one with 6 airbags.
