mas mataas toyota. and if you're planning to keep the car for a long time toyota or honda would still be better choices. how about yun rav4 na 4x2 lang. afaik mas mataas ng konti resale nyan due to cheaper maintenance cost and better fuel economy. ang laki din ng difference sa unit price ng 4x4 sa 4x2.

If it's a diesel, maybe. But if it's a 2.4 gasoline car... no. Just look at the secondhand prices for even late-model Camry sedans... down through the floor. The RAV4 might benefit from the fact that it looks like an SUV, but even if it keeps like 5% more value over time, you are still losing around 200,000 pesos in resale value the moment you buy the RAV4, and about 500,000 pesos within the first two years.

If you buy a similar CR-V or X-Trail for 1.55m, you will lose a lot less in resale value. The CR-V's value retention is better than the RAV4's. The X-Trail, while not having the same great resale value as a Honda or a Toyota, still costs almost 400,000 less. So even if you lose 30% of its value compared to like 20% for the Toyota, you are still only losing half-a-million in value... which means you've still lost 300-400k less than you would if you bought the RAV4.
When we needed a crossover, the Tucson wasn't launched yet, so we got the 4x4 CR-V. Since the 2.4 CR-V doesn't sell well, we got it at a mere 1.45m. That's pretty cheap for an AWD 5-speed AT Honda with full leather.

If you're willing to max your budget, then go for a Tucson Diesel. The Santa Fe and Sorento are nice, but they're incredibly wide and might be hard to maneuver in city driving. The Captiva is also a very wide car, too. The Tucson is smaller and easier to drive, and it's just as comfortable as a RAV4 or an X-Trail, with the added bonus of diesel fuel economy. Yes, you'll pay more for maintenance versus a gasoline engine, but the lower fuel bills balance that out nicely. You don't even have to get the top-of-the-line Tucson... a mid-level diesel will be very comfortable already at a very cheap 1.34 million pesos. Combine that with the savings in fuel and the high resale of diesel cars, and it's a given winner.
But if you decide to go for the top-of-the-line, you're getting dual sunroofs, nice leather and a lot of toys for a lot less than a 4x4 RAV4.Last edited by niky; January 24th, 2012 at 12:04 PM.

Highly recommended from me is the Mitsubishi ASX, I bought this car last year because of my wife & she loves it very much!
Techie? Sure, you will love the Head Unit
Interior? not unless you prefer for leather, ASX only have nice fabric. But safety is all around the inside, 7airbags.
Other nice specs are;
6-speed cvt (very flexible drive)
with paddle shifters (manual mode or sporty)
HID Headlight with projector (very nice in driving at night)
Keyless entry & keyless engine start/stop.
4x4 features is a shift knob (flawless)
ASC (active stability control) will help you turn a curve at 90Kph, or more...
Furthermore, Maintenance including FC is affordable & economical

2007 model bought in 2008. Apparently someone ordered a dozen or so 2.4s then backed out, leaving them with excess stock. Since the cars were moved around and started every now and then, the only thing that went wrong with it prematurely was the battery, which was expected for a car stocked for a year.
Friend just bought a Sportage. Lovely car, but personally, mas practical ang Tucson.
