Good day sirs! At first I was already inclined to get the Innova G 2.5mt because Fortuners and Monteros are way above budget. Then i saw the Glx mt variant of the Monty which only has a slight price difference. Now i'm confused. I like the looks of Montero but which is better in terms of power, handling, fuel consumption, durability and of course maintenance cost? Tia

    Power - Monty sport
    Maintenance cost - Innova
Fuel consumption - Innova (the diesel m/t does around 10km/L city driving and 13-16km/L highway).
    Safety - Monty

If you can get the Monty within your budget then why not? Otherwise if you're practical then the Innova will still be easier on the pocket.

kung family car hanap mo then Innova. If you will use your car mostly by yourself then Monty.

Test drive both or at least visit the showroom before making a decision. If possible bring your family as well. Their opinions and preferences are very important in choosing a car.

Personally, I'd get the Montero. Very much bang for your buck. You get decent engine performance and handling, a comfy ride, higher ground clearance and of course a more dignified look.

I think your family will go with the montero, iba ang dating.

Imagine yourself driving a Innova, tapos meron tumabi sayong montero, tatawanan mo ba sha or hihinga ka ng malalim?

I still drive a 20 year old, bare-bones Sentra and i don't give a damn about the Monty next to me in traffic unless he's acting like a prick and cuts me off as he pleases... (just as one did to me yesterday afternoon). :D

My main gripe with the current Monty Sport GLS is that the AC blower is quite weak; Nahihirapan ipalamig yung vehicle in the midday summer sun as compared to the Innova. I first thought it was with particular to the unit i was using but i confirmed it with my boss who had a similar vehicle (these two Monty Sports were purchased and delivered from the same dealer at the same time). One main thing that would swing me to a Monty Sport over the Innova G (which is very, very practical already) is mainly the better crash ratings of the MS versus the Toyota IMVs.

Thanks for the inputs sirs. 😟

been in the same dilemma last year and we end up with the Innova G M/T pearl white because frugality, practicality and ease of maintenance are more important for us than image/looks. take note that we had a 2009 Monty GLS 2wd before but we sold it in 2010. i don't know if my observation is right na mas malamig ang aircon ng Innova compared to our Monty before dahil naka auto climate control ang innova. mas comfortable din and 3rd row ng Innova compared to Monty.

We have the same observations on the A/C.

If this is the underlying reason in buying a vehicle, the Innova is indeed the choice (that's why we've already gone through 3 Innovas in our garage since 2005).

If the Monty is due for a facelift, maybe they'll be giving better discounts this time. You may also want to compare the PMS costs of both cars if you're on a strict budget.

TS, dont worry about the incoming facelift(?) ng montero. Every year naman may bagong model ang sasakyan, be it a MMC or FMC. Kung looks lang din ang concern mo, AFAIK yung GLX model is MY 2012 (yung di pa honeycomb yung grille). Still, it looks better than Innova IMO.

Both are good cars. Its just a matter of preference. I'll take the Montero if you ask me about my take.

Di naman po gaano big deal yung bagong montero kasi only a facelift not all new. One more thing innova will be due for all new i think, 2005 pa yung current na kaha eh, naka ilang facelift narin.

If you are planning to have the vehicle for a long time, say about 4 years or more, you also have to consider the cost the things that needs replacement like tires. Mas mahal ang goma ng montero and maintenance wise, afaik mas mahal ang montero.

But if you can afford it, I think montero is the better choice.

Kung new grille at mags lang a la Crosswind, minor facelift lang pala. Kapag may marked price increase, better go with the current version.

Montero Sport GLX is TCi(?); And, I assume that for the same price, you are referring to the Innova G Diesel which is D4D...

Magkaiba ang makina niyan.... That of the MS GLX variant is a generation ago compared to the Innova's D4D,- and with that the MS's may be prone to emission issues. Puwedeng maging peborit iyan ng mga ASBU....

Ano ba ang (Euro) rating ng TCi ng MS?

Sa website mg MItsu Phil, yung 4D56 engine ng GLX ay describe as a DI-D common rail diesel engine with 136 PS...etc..
Its Euro 2 compliant so mas malamang hindi yan mausok sa Phil diesel di tulad ng VGT version.

the D4-D issue on the IMVs has long been dead.

that's why when I drove my officemate's 2012 GLS-V during a lunch out in our office, i validated already na may pagka-weak ang aircon ng Monty dahil pinagpapawisan pa rin ako after the 30 minute drive considering na naka- full tint at may vents na siya sa 2nd and 3rd row or maybe bias lang ako sa lamig ng buga ng auto climate na aircon.

this is one of the reasons why we sold our Monty.

I'm not a Monty basher/ hater here. Actually, i really love our Monty GLS to the point na nanghihinayang pa rin ako 'pag nakikita ko siya (ka-officemate ni dad ang nakabili). iba pa rin talaga ang dating ng Monty sa Innova. iiwan lang din ni Monty si Innova (pero di masyadong malayo) sa highway. as far as i know the TS will be using the vehicle on provincial roads dito rin sa south so Monty na nga talaga for TS.
