Good day sirs! At first I was already inclined to get the Innova G 2.5mt because Fortuners and Monteros are way above budget. Then i saw the Glx mt variant of the Monty which only has a slight price difference. Now i'm confused. I like the looks of Montero but which is better in terms of power, handling, fuel consumption, durability and of course maintenance cost? Tia

    Power - Monty sport
    Maintenance cost - Innova
Fuel consumption - Innova (the diesel m/t does around 10km/L city driving and 13-16km/L highway).
    Safety - Monty

If you can get the Monty within your budget then why not? Otherwise if you're practical then the Innova will still be easier on the pocket.

kung family car hanap mo then Innova. If you will use your car mostly by yourself then Monty.

Test drive both or at least visit the showroom before making a decision. If possible bring your family as well. Their opinions and preferences are very important in choosing a car.

Personally, I'd get the Montero. Very much bang for your buck. You get decent engine performance and handling, a comfy ride, higher ground clearance and of course a more dignified look.

I think your family will go with the montero, iba ang dating.

Imagine yourself driving a Innova, tapos meron tumabi sayong montero, tatawanan mo ba sha or hihinga ka ng malalim?

if its me.. Monty.. I do travel to province every now and then and I do like to go to places where most of the time is unpaved road... becomes muddy at rainy season...

But if is mostly going to be used in Manila or in a CIty.... Innova will suffice... but still, the price difference is not that big anymore.. and it is rainy season already... so Monty pa rin... higher ground clearance and bigger tires for those new pot holes in the asphalt created during rainy season...

I still drive a 20 year old, bare-bones Sentra and i don't give a damn about the Monty next to me in traffic unless he's acting like a prick and cuts me off as he pleases... (just as one did to me yesterday afternoon). :D

My main gripe with the current Monty Sport GLS is that the AC blower is quite weak; Nahihirapan ipalamig yung vehicle in the midday summer sun as compared to the Innova. I first thought it was with particular to the unit i was using but i confirmed it with my boss who had a similar vehicle (these two Monty Sports were purchased and delivered from the same dealer at the same time). One main thing that would swing me to a Monty Sport over the Innova G (which is very, very practical already) is mainly the better crash ratings of the MS versus the Toyota IMVs.

i'd get the montero. iba pa rin ang dating at feel ng SUV. tsaka nakakapogi sumakay dun sir. hehe if the superficial things dont matter to you though okay na yung innova. plus points nalang yung higher ground clearance.

The Innova is actually a very tough car. Its basically the shell of a minivan on the underpinnings of a truck and so uses a traditional ladder frame chassis. With the right tires it will be able to go pretty much any where the Montero can go. Flood wading capability is also very good.

So the differences really only lie on the looks, tires and higher horse engine.

Thanks for the inputs sirs. 😟

been in the same dilemma last year and we end up with the Innova G M/T pearl white because frugality, practicality and ease of maintenance are more important for us than image/looks. take note that we had a 2009 Monty GLS 2wd before but we sold it in 2010. i don't know if my observation is right na mas malamig ang aircon ng Innova compared to our Monty before dahil naka auto climate control ang innova. mas comfortable din and 3rd row ng Innova compared to Monty.

Kung new grille at mags lang a la Crosswind, minor facelift lang pala. Kapag may marked price increase, better go with the current version.

TS, dont worry about the incoming facelift(?) ng montero. Every year naman may bagong model ang sasakyan, be it a MMC or FMC. Kung looks lang din ang concern mo, AFAIK yung GLX model is MY 2012 (yung di pa honeycomb yung grille). Still, it looks better than Innova IMO.

Both are good cars. Its just a matter of preference. I'll take the Montero if you ask me about my take.
