Honestly if nasa 20s pa yan and single, I don't think pipiliin nya willingly yung adventure. Since sa ganyang age, porma parin yung importante.

Pag advie kasi tapos 20s yung nagddrive mukang hiniram sa tatay. :P and baka mahiya rin gamitin for gala with frienda lalo na kung naka latest sedans sila, kahit sub 500k sedan mas "cool" parin sa advie. (This is just my pov/opinion coming from a mid 20s 90s baby)

I'd teach my kids the value of being content on whatever vehicle I give them. I think the TS have that in mind. But personally, I would probably NOT give him an Adventure. Something smaller perhaps, like a Vios or Ertiga.

Hehe. Kahit tatay ko ganyan din sasabihin. Kaya nashare ko rin yung opinion ko since medyo malapit pa naman ng konti yung age namin ng anak ni doc (ata).

Kung di spoiled yung anak, I'm sure matutuwa parin yan, syempre free car parin. Di dapat yan magrreklamo. Pero for a single, 20s man, iba parin talaga ang appeal ng sedan/pickup/suv.

Since I think, di naman kailangan ng anak yung capacity ni advie. With gf or a few friends kasya na if some of his friends owns a ride too. Or need kung man nya, he may borrow his dad's ride. :D

My thoughts:

1. The Adventure isn't any easier to drive than an Innova. In fact, because the Innova has much better ergonomics, I find it easier to manage its width compared to the crude Adventure. So I find it odd that you don't like an Innova but would consider an Adventure.

2. Your son isn't warming up to an Innova or Wigo, do you really think he'll like the prospect of an Adventure? Of course it's still your choice, but the fact that you considered his opinion on your 2 cars means that you care a bit about what he thinks about the car. The Adventure is the epitome of old-school, soul-less motoring. Can't imagine a millennial even wanting one.

3. Not fast, easy to maneuver, narrow, reliable - the Jimny and Ecosport come to mind. Heck, since you didn't list ground clearance as a necessity, any good subcompact can fit your bill. All of these will be faster than an Adventure (ok maybe not the Jimny), but at least these modern cars have ABS, airbags, much better steering and braking, and bodies that have withstood global safety standards.

4. You're willing to spend 900k on an Adventure (unless you're going used?). For that money, you have a myriad of cars to choose from. Previous posters have already mentioned good alternatives at much cheaper prices.

I'd suggest you go for the Adventure. Low cost maintenance, sturdy components and excellent wading depth are perfect for a potentially negligent newbie student driver. For me, the lethargic engine is actually sort of a boon for a newbie driver to be able to test the (very low) limits of the car safely before gradually ascending to more powerful cars. Unless your son studies in a snooty, rich-kid school, I don't think driving an Adventure would be something to be laughed at. In fact it might become popular for carpooling. :D

I agree with the Thread Starter. For a rookie driver, don't give him a Turbo Diesel suvs,auvs,sedan, etc... Stick to the old school engines (Non turbo) Maintenance and Fuel Efficient wise, but ofc the downside is a little bit sluggish. Brand new Adventure or Crosswind is a good choice if your budget permits. Else, if your getting a 2nd hand Diesel AUV, Revo is still a good pick. I'll prefer the last generation model of revo (2003-2008?) not sure sa year pero yung wide yung angle ng headlight and parang triangular yung taillights.

adventure gx mt diesel (735k), why adventure? tama sinabi ng isa, peyborit ng asbu yan. alam nila same engine ng l300 pag binira uusok at fail sa kanilang smoke belching test kahit brand new pa. also it is a 10 seater. gagawing squad car ng barkada yan. minus 2 points imho. at pag nagpa-super dark tint alam na, instant motel haha lolo ka agad!

+1 on the jimny 1.3 jx mt (738k). small, sits 4, not fast. +2 for floods. inaakyat nga ng pinatubo yan e, sisiw ang baha sa espana. with 4-inch lift and mud tires at least hobby ang dating hindi bisyo.

mirage gls hatch mt (633k), matipid talaga. report ng neighbor ko he averages 22-24 km/l city driving. he's had the car for 2+ years now and daily driver nya so far wala pa naman ako narinig sa kanya na nasira. for its price, kung ano man ang matitipid mo sa diesel presyo pa lang bawi ka na agad dito. yung 100k difference e yan na din price difference ng diesel and gas liter per liter for 110,000 km on the odo (computed at 22km/l)!!! if you factor in the fuel mileage of the adventure eh baka kahit 10 years di mage-equal yan panalo pa din mirage.

Pinsan ko naka mirage hatch ako naman may 2nd gen celerio. Sa Celerio ko magaang lang paa ko at maintained lang lagi sa 2k rpm as much as possible. City driving sa metro manila especially rush hour mahirap ng makakuha ng 15km/l same sa pinsan kong naka mirage.

Taga manila ba yang friend mo? At impossible din atang hindi sya nakaka experience ng traffic para makuha nya yung input na sinabi nya sayo.
