    Good day sirs.

I need to buy my son an economical car. Hes a student and he's driving from Alabang to Dasmarinas. So we need a car na sobrang tipid sa gas. Right now, were thinking of mirage, celerio and the upcoming vios 2014. As of now, I'm thinking of mirage over those two. With the price of 600+k, this car has a fully loaded features such as; push start button, touch screen entertainment system with GPS, USB ready, more legroom in the second row, and stylish interior. Im talking about the mirage GLS AT. Also, up to 700k lang bo ang busget namin.

So, before po ko bumili. I need your suggestions sirs para hindi kami magsisi sa huli. Thanks.

Get him a manual transmission car. That gets you down to 580k for the fully-loaded Mirage, or allows you to budget for the base Rio 1.2 MT, the Accent 1.4 6AT or the new Vios 1.3.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

For me pag gusto nyo matipid talaga, mirage manual or accent crdi. Between the 2 i will go for the accent crdi hatchback. Why? Coz mas sulit mas malaki at sub compact di po mini ang category nya. About the vios ganda rin kasi all new yun lang wala pa po ako idea gaano about this car. Celerio sorry but medyo di ko type. Thanks!

Paki payuhan lang po si junior na huwag masyadong matuwa sa pag drive sa daang hari. Dami na naaksidente doon. Safety features should be a big consideration as well. Mirage sounds like a good idea. I'm from Alabang as well.

He's not used to drive manual cars. Wala kasi kaming manual na sasakyan at hndi nagkaron. hehe. Pero marunong naman siya kaya lang I prefer for him to use matic para hindi na siya mahirapan or manibago and hindi ganon kalaki yung difference from GLX m/t sa GLS a/t so sayang yung features.

Have you considered the Eon po? Mas maliit po makina kaysa sa Mirage po. Maganda po Mirage, specifically the GLS variant po. Madami na po akong nakikitang Mirage sa daan. Mirage po sana ang first car ko po

You have a point so maybe mirage a/t will be number one on your list. If accent is not within the budget, ford eco boost will fit if below 700k is the SRP.

i do not have anything against the brand pero medyo biase ako sa mga new models na hindi pa nagagamit locally, especially new everything mas ok pa nga kung reface lang eh.

some brands that i read here in tsikot found out that their gasoline engine have problem or knocking issues since 2012 (or 2011) which AFAIK, the company is not yet amenable to the defect. one of the owner succesfully change some components in the engine but still there is knocking issue.

During the time that oil prices skyrocketed, some manufacturers released CVT system which until today is a problem of most of its owners.

Mirage, despite having some problems with its CVT (though already solved by Mitsu) we still do not know if it is a long term fix, but i beleive and trusts Mitsu's reputation.

HTH, just my opinion and others might have feedback as well. i do not want to argue pero its just what i know, others feel free to comment. let us not start flame thread but be constructive.

My Mirage (CVT) just averages around 11km/l but that's pure city driving. Your route might yield significantly higher FC due to Daanghari's motoring condition. We also took the Mirage because our budget is 700k. All of the other nice choices are way above the budget. Another choice under the radar is the Toyota Yaris. With few haggles it might land on your budget. As you know, it's one of the not selling so well Toyota and thus, the discounts in this model is a bit higher than its siblings. It's something we overlooked 2 months ago. It is roomier and more powerful than the Mirage but it has a bit less features. Goodluck.

Thanks for sharing. Is your mirage the GLS one? Have you experienced any problem? Sulit kasi si mirage unlike other compact cars.

My Mirage is a GLS variant sir. It has a very usable GPS system. Very good AC and lotsa features (keyless operation, start/stop button, auto AC, 15" mags, spoiler, foglamps, 5 headrest, 5pcs 3 pt. ELR belts, trip computer, etc). Ang sakit ng Mirage eh yung low quality flywheel cover/starter/driveplate from Thailand units. It's actually on an informal recall if I should call it. Kasi alam naman ng Mitsubishi pero kelangan customer initiated para palitan. Other than that I have no complains with my car. Yung akin nakapila na for replacement sa casa. Of course at their expense, under warranty. As for me, kung papasok sa 700K ang Yaris AT, yun pa din vote ko. Had a Vios before and it is virtually problem free car. Sayang lang talaga nawala sa isip ko nung bibili kami Mirage hehehe

Even if he's not used to a manual, the Mirage's manual transmission is a breeze to use. Soft, predictable clutch, light, easy gearshift. Might as well let him get used to it. It's a skill he can use later on, and the manual transmission will save him some. It's about 2 km/l better in traffic than the CVT, from what I've seen.

I'll wait for the upcoming new generation Vios. Facelifts are common enough that you see them yearly, but generational changes? 5-7 years. That's like going from starting college to getting his very first job promotion. Couple this with abundant supply of parts (for easy maintenance) and flexibility for modifications (which adrenaline-laden teenage doesn't do it?) and it's a solid recommendation.

Want to try reverse psychology on your kid when he's pushing you towards an automatic transmission over a manual? Try asking him if he wants to drive sports cars (ex. Honda S2000s, NSXs, etc.) in the future and go egg him on to say that he'll have a hard time drifting on an automatic :naughty2:
