Hey guys! Wow, tsikot changed a lot! Kudos to all of you!

Mind if you guys help me with my new dilemma. I need to buy my mom a new car for her everyday city driving, and we were choosing between the Kia Rio Hatch A/T and the Toyota Vios 1.5G A/T, and since its my mom who will drive it most of the time, what do you think is the best between the two in terms of:

    RELIABILITY
    GAS CONSUMPTION
    MAINTENANCE
    PERFORMANCE

Reliability - Its my mom, she just sees it as another appliance. So it should be reliable enough and not give her headaches. The Toyota might have an edge on this (let's face it, its a Toyota). How about the Kia?

Gas Consumption - Of course, something you should consider in buying a brand new car.

Maintenance - Is the Kia relatively cheap and easy to maintain?

Performance - My mom will sometimes take the car for out of town trips, mostly going from Pangasinan to Baguio. What would you say regarding the performance of the two? Wont both of it have any problems going up Kennon road? Kaskasero po nanay ko, so engine POWER is a must.

Hope you can help in deciding the best car for her! Thank You Everyone, Keep Safe!

If your mom views cars as an appliance, then get her an appliance.

Go for either the Vios 1.5G or Yaris 1.5G. The Yaris is cheaper with the same engine and FC, similar parts, but at least it looks a lot less boring.

All you really lose are a few amenities (think along the lines power-folding side mirrors and a multi-information display).

If you want power though, and you've got the budget, go for the Jazz 1.5V or Fiesta 1.6 Sport. Both faster than the Vios/Yaris. Also much more fun to drive up Kennon road.

Wala pong problema ung makina ng accent. Yung quality ng gas natin dito sa pinas ang problema.

I'll go for Kia Rio Hatch.

Why not the Fiesta Sport, Accent 1.6, Mazda 2 1.5R or Suzuki Swift? All pretty cars. No engine issues associated with these models.

Kung engine lang, bilib ako sa Vios/Yaris. Pero yung tranny yung patalo eh, mas maganda talaga 5AT ng Jazz sa 4AT ng Toyota. Not because it has more gears, but because it responds better and feels like it saps less power

IMHO, kung ikaw bibili, Rio. Kung nanay bibili, Vios. She might not be able to appreciate the extra amenities of the Rio, and instead notice that the performance of the two are pretty much the same. Hindi ko rin talaga type ang Vios. Generic/unappealing design (at least para sa akin), poor interior plastics quality, cramped cabin and small trunk... I'd suggest you let her see the Accent GLS instead. The 1.6L engine has no issues with engine knocking. Besides, I am inclined to believe that this kind of design appeals a lot to the fairer ***. Kaskasera? 124hp engine. almost 20 horses more than the Vios and Rio.

Ang lamang ng vios sa rio is engine and reliabilty which is not a tangible thing unless you own the unit na for a long time. You mother might get bored with vios sa casa if she doesnt see the "play" things she saw on rio. One thing that might sway your mother to vios is the huge discount toyota is giving.

Mazda 2. Fun little car. Or even the Suzuki Swift.

I like both, and would have picked either of them over my Vios if I didn't need the trunk. And undeniably, those two look better than my car...

Pero ayun nga, the sense of practicality and frugality bit me. The Vios is cheap to run, low-cost on fuel & on maintenance so I got it. It might not be as exciting as the said two, happy pa rin ako. Because in the end, I'm very confident that my car would last long and be able to take the beating I might give to it.

The Vios isn't that bad. Pretty torquey vehicle, so it doesn't disappoint. Good if your mom travels around the metropolis a lot. She'll need it. There isn't so much toys like the Rio, though.. pero yun nga.. if the Rio wasn't that thirsty on fuel and had no engine-knocking issues maganda siya.
