Between the two (gas variants), which one would you choose and why?

    Carens points to consider:
    + purchase price 100k+ cheaper
    + engine stronger on paper
    + better ride?
    + more flexible interior layout
    + nicer drive?
    + "world" car
    - Kia brand?
    - low resale
    - questionable after sales support?
    - street credibility

    Innova points to consider:
    + Toyota brand
    + roomier?
    + better and faster resale
    + convenient to service
+ more durable for RP roads?
+ less risky choice due to above
    - choppy ride?
    - cheaper looking interior
    - very common -> more carnappable?

Main purpose is to be a service car for the family. Tipong go anywhere city car so it shouldn't be flashy and under 1M especially since it will be the 4th car in my garage.

Kia may be more affordable to purchase but will end up more expensive if you factor resale and servicing in 3-4 years?

I'd go with the Carens anytime.

The interior & exterior is just a world apart. As to servicing, based on the posts of Kia Sorento, Sedona & Picanto owners here - it is not that different from other manufacturers. The after sales service of many Kia dealerships are even better than that of Toyota dealerships (read the Good Squad about this).

As to durability, it might just be even for both. I've been reading of busted shock absorbers for the Innova in their thread. The Innova's ride is not Fortuner choppy though, it has the best suspension among the IMV vehicles.

carens parin ako, driven both, innova is just bigger to look at, pero thats it...

nowadays, dont be fooled by brand, masmagaganda ang offers ng mga undercard brands, lalo na ang korean...(exclude mo muna ang mga clone-chinese brands)..

for me mas bang-for-buck ang carens kaysa sa innova.

nga pala, MPV ang category ng carens, ka-catgory nya are the grandis, previa, only cheaper... kung di ka nagmamadali, ung CRDi lalabas din nila...

sorry for my ignorance. available na ba sa dealers ang kia carens? I hope the kia carens will hold up on its quality based on international standard.. Kasi I have a friend who bought a sedona in 03, dispose it in two years replaced it with an innova. Masyadong na disappoint sa sedona, kaya ayaw na ng korean brand.

Innova *might* have an advantage in flood fording during rainy seasons and roomier space for the third row passenger. Innova's air filter is located behind its headlight and the tail pipe is quite tall also.

Yeah, I am just so disappointed with my 2002 Sedona. It is already nearing 160,000-km on its odometer and it's still running very well. I was thinking of replacing it with an Innova last year, but we ended up keeping the Sedona and getting a CRDI Starex as well (the Starex has logged close to 40,000 km in less than a year's time).

Dang these Korean cars, I hate them, hate them, hate them

I think interior color depends on exterior color (not on grade or trim level).

At least that's how it goes with the Rio and Sorento.

also check on the safety features. the carens has added side curtain airbags which protects the passengers in case of rollover. you said this new vehicle will serve as a family car, so the safer the family the better, right? i might be bias because a relative is a kia agent. :-)

I don't think the Carens being offered here in the Philippines have side curtain airbags. You might want to double check with your relative.

Only driver side airbag for EX model and no ABS.

yup. the carens being offered here DO NOT HAVE curtain airbags, only driver side airbag and ONLY comes with the EX (top-of-the-line) variant. no ABS on all variants too. Unfortunately, the carens that landed here is... a castrated version.. too bad. Is the innova the safer vehicle? hmm...im not sure. Is the carens the better car? I think it is. No offense to innova owners, innova is a fine car too. Wala ka naman talo kahit alin piliin mo sa dalawa. I have driven both cars extensively enough to say my humble opinion.

I have posted in another thread that Innova is my choice. I am just waiting for the PO and a model G D4D A/T has been the consensus. It was a difficult decision to make but I am sure it was a good one. I have consulted a lot of people and I guess this is still Toyota territory. Also, the size and the space was the clincher. I will go for Flaxen yata ang tawag and hopefully within the year I should be driving it.

the innova is not a bad choice at all since it is a fine car too. i drive an uncle's innova and i kinda like it too. in terms of space/size, it is better than the carens. so, good choice!
