because the tendency is that if your aircon is off, your windows are wide open, and it creates wind drag, which either slows down your vehicle or you press down your gas pedal to compensate. this is true if you are running more than 60 kph.

What I do is turn off the aircon compressor and leave the fan running, with the air vents open.

This actually works, but the difference is very slight... almost too slight to be noticeable, unless you do the same thing in traffic, which WILL turn your car into a portable sauna. For traffic, I just find the nearest gas station and go have a nap...
