True. and I think it's just like 130something horsepower of the MS. Anyway, I don't think it's as sluggish as people think it is, it still can make a good 180kph (limited) on the highways even with a full load in ease. Just check the fortunerclub forums.

pero btw, parang mas maganda ang whistling sound ng diesel ng Fort kesa sa parang kinakaladkad na tunog ng makina ng MS. the MS' engine sounds lethargic compared to the whistling and smooth gliding sound of the Fort's engine be it 2.5 or 3.0.
Very very true, I can hear the whistling sound of the 3.0 on the road even inside my house. I know a 3.0 Fortuner passed by once I hear it. Really awesome sound that engine makes.

Mitsubishi Montero Sport was clearly ahead of the Toyota Fortuner in the medium-size SUV category

If you compare the lowest-end automatic Fortuner with the lowest end automatic transmission Montero Sport, you will notice that the Fortuner has a better over-all package. For one, the Fortuner has auto climate control while the Montero Sport has the manual-rotary controls for its aircon. For the Fortuner, the only difference between the top-end and the lowest-end A/T are th engine and transmission, all the rest are the same. So you do not feel short-changed even if you just get the Fortuner 2.7 VVTi. However, for the Monetro Sport, aside from the engine and transmission, there are other differences in the interior specifications, so parang ang daming binawas from the top-end para maging low-end. Admittedly though, the lowest-end MS with auto tranny is lower-priced compared to the lowest-end Fortuner with auto tranny.
You are comparing a more expensive gasoline engine Fortuner to a diesel Montero Sport. Naturally the higher priced Fortuner will have extra budget to add more features.

for the price range... the facelifted santa fe with the new transmission and new engine mismatches both of these vehicles

Ay nabuhay ulit pala ito!! even at crisis, people still put cars or these two SUVs Fort and MS and other brands close to their hearts and spent the money's worth the pick rides.. I wonder how the main roads would look like in the next five year time when more and more people opt to buy brand new then sell their old rides to compensate their satisfactions.. Maybe, i can no longer test my Monty's performance after all that has been said and done come five years time.. Busina at brakes naman ang pagtutuunan natin ng pansin dahil sa traffic! hehe .. sa akin lang naman ito..

Ang dami na nating tao and cars sa Philippines! meron kayang population control din ang mga rides?

To all pips who have valued and love our present rides whether Montero Sport or Fortuner, let's enjoy it to the fullest while the road is still long and wide!! Happy Motoring!! be safe!

Toyota still not offering standard reversing camera (soon to be MANDATORY safety equipment in other markets) on their Fortuner. No GPS too. Not that I don't know where I'm going but it can double as an entertainment center for the kids when playing DVD's. Toyota accessories will charge extra if you want DVD entertainment.

The Fortuner rear seats have to be hung on the third row grab handles. A feat most averaged sized females have difficulty doing. On the MS, you just pull a switch and the rear seat folds flat.

Spare tire winch on the MS is also harder to defeat with than on the Fortuner. Keeping the spare safer.

Fort may have automatic climate control across the range but a lot of local folks don't even know how to use it and still use it like manual a/c. Basta lumalamig ok na.

Btw, i drive a Toyota. I'm not a Mitsu fan boy. But if you like the Fortuner, I see no reason not to get one. It's just that the MS is offering a better value at least for what I need in a vehicle.

    100% agree.

Pero nakapagtataka rin, ang dami ko nakikitang brand new Fortuner. Karamihan 2.5D-4D. Iba parin ang gayuma ng Toyota

HID headlamps, leather seats (2.7G, 2.5G A/T, 3.0V) at auto climate sa lahat ng variant lang ang lamang ng Fortuner over Montero Sport. Pero, who cares?

Madali lang yan gayahin ika nga. HAHA! Kung base model nga napapag-mukhang TOTL eh. Ahohoho. Ahihihi

Regards to turbo lag: Strangely, the new Fortuner ATs also have similar lag to the Montero Sport that I didn't notice in older models. It takes about 1.5 seconds for the engine to respond after you bury the throttle. With the Montero, it's slightly worse... about 2 seconds.

Maraming bagong Fort dahil sa malakas ng promotions at sales events ng Toyota. Pagkatapos ng 4th Quarter buying spree, status quo nanaman yun.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

^ maybe due to the electronic throttle... sa kia carens nararamdaman ko din yan lalo na pag naka off ang aircon... may nabasa ako sa forums ng kia na due daw yun sa ecu update (yung may improvement sa egr function) and the only solution is to turn on the aircon..

Undoubtedly, that's a big part of it. But there's still a slight extra amount of lag with the Strada 2.5 before the turbo kicks in as compared to the Hilux 3.0... that slight difference is the short amount of time it takes to go from idle to 2000 rpm.

With the pick-ups, the lag is less noticeable. But with the Montero Sport, equipped with the new VGT engine, it's huge.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

The deciding factor: Why I chose the Fortuner over the Montero sport
