No question on the aesthetics of the CX5, it is one good-looking CUV. Even more striking in Mazda's Soul Red color. It is a bit cramped on the inside compared to other CUVs. SkyActiv technology makes the CX5 quite fuel efficient compared to other petrol-powered CUVs.

Unibody (Forester, CX-5 etc) vs body-on-frame (Fort, Monty etc)

    Mid-Size Trucks Don't Need Frames

Kinda long read and it discusses the Honda Ridgeline but the comparison between the two designs in terms of interior space and ride quality are useful.

Nasanay na kasi sa full-size SUV yung mga kapamilya ko, never kami nag mid-sized kaya I was looking for the biggest mid-sized SUV in the market as a compromise. I drive the Altis kaya I wanted a bigger car for occasional floods.

My heart says CX5 but the mind (and other people) say Fortuner for sheer practicality.

Another option would be the Hyundai Tucson which is almost 1/3 cheaper but then it's a Hyundai. I think masyado maraming downside ang Hyundai? I don't like the design of the Forester, masyadong boring. No to Ecosport since it's too small. X-Trail naman halos kasing laki na ng Fortuner, no point in going for it?

My other concern is car durability. Toyota's are built for our lubak-lubak roads but I'm not sure if Mazda and Hyundai can handle it. Yung company car na Starex namin ang daming sakit in just a few years. We have friends who is a Hyundai and a Toyota dealer so after-sales for both brands shouldn't be as big as an issue as the norm. I read Mazda service is decent?

    Which one is better?

Ano meaning ng Belly Burner? Maalog sa likod?

Ano mas masarap sakyan for semi long drives like Tagaytay or Batangas?

Bihira lang kasi ako sumakay ng compact SUV. I either ride compacts, SUVs, vans or high-end van like Alphard since this is what the company uses also.
Matagtag bro ang fortuner aka belly buster. You will feel each small stone. Teat drive one.

Test drive the new montero. Night and day ang suspension-confortable.

Note the steering also. One will be easier to parallel park and u-turn.

Fort for me. Sarap ng meron ka malaki cargo space or extra 2 seats pag kinailangan. As for ride comfort, pwede naman mag after market shocks to soften the suspension. HTH

Is the new Fortuner as bumpy as the previous Montero series or the older Pajeros? Feel ko sanay na nanay ko sa matagtag na cars. LOL.

As for the extra 2 seats and cargo space, hindi namin nagagamit.

Cx5 for me. Better driving dynamics, comfortable, skyactiv technology, yojin3 - will help offset cost of gas compared sa diesel but pms cost ng fort. Also if you value being unique over parts/resale, eto ata ang pinaka onte sa lahat ng nabanggit dito (monty, fort, rav4, tucson, sportage, sta fe, forester etc).

Diko sure kung facelifted na ung 2017 crv. Might be worth waiting, not 100% sure though.. ang boring kasi ng hitsura hehe.

15k daw sa casa. However, there are folks in the Mazda thread who used Amaron batteries (at around 5k) as replacement for the stock battery.
