Comparo (all AT): Accent-Diesel, Jazz, Vios, Mirage

    Hi bros and sis:

Am planning to buy a daily use car. Priority is low running costs (daily fuel and regular PMS costs). Reliability comes next.
Which among the choices mentioned will you select and why? For current owners, pls share your experiences, good and bad with these cars. If you have other car options worth adding to the choices, pls suggest as well.

Thanks a lot for your help and suggestions.

Its a toss between the accent crdi and the vios for me. Id prefer the accent because of the diesel engine and the hatch form. But the new vios looks really good. Although its novelty will wear off soon once the taxi versions are release. Toyota is very reliable and low maintenance. Parts will also be cheap should anything break.

Thanks bro. If I run approx 1000km a month and considering their mandatory PMS schedules, will it be better for me to get the Accent diesel or the Vios annual OPEX wise?

^You'll have to change oil every 5000kms for both the Accent and Vios, though the Accent would consume more liters of motor oil. If you don't do your maintenance at the casa, PMS is actually quite cheap, even for the diesel. Besides, you'll only be doing that twice a year. The only time it gets really expensive for the Accent CRDi is when something fuel system or turbo related breaks down. That can be avoided or at least much delayed if the car is well taken cared of.

FC wise, the Accent is definitely the winner here, and by a big margin too. Since we're talking about the 1.5A/T Vios here, FC isn't really that spectacular.

I suggest you visit them all at the showroom and try to get a feel of the car. Find out if it fits your needs and if your heart calls out to it.

the facelift ford fiesta 1.0 ecoboost engine is coming mid of august this year(according to the sales agent of ford manila). i think this will be a winner in terms of overall running cost compare to accent crdi

Mas maganda accent, especially in city driving because of the high low-end torque of the engine. Very fuel efficient as you don't need to step on the accelerator pedal much to get ahead in heavy traffic. BUT PMS IS EXPENSIVE, WHAT WITH THE 5000KM/3MONTHS PM SCHEDULE OF HARI. kahit wala pa 5000 km tinakbo ng accent crdi obligado ka magpa-pm every 3 months. Kung ok lang sa iyo spending for maintenance every 3 months why not.

Honda jazz, with that anemic torqueless honda engine, naaaah! Bore > stroke = low torque, but honda just likes its high revs.

    Mirage, too small. And untested.

Fiesta, read the ford fiesta thread. Natapos na ba mga problems nila, it has been a long time since i read that thread e.

    Vios na lang, toyota pa.

Loves ko ang Jazz,- pero tama si bro.yebo,- ang power ay nasa high rev lang,- kaya mahirap magpreno in a stop and go traffic when fighting for position.

Agree too on Vios and Mirage,- I choose Vios over the Mirage.

So, I recommend the CRDi Accent,- IMO, it is a balanced mix of form and function.

Vios or Accent for me. Siguro for simplicity's sake, the Vios. No turbo to break down.

I'll take the jazz from the choices. Honda naman talaga known for high reving ever since the vtec was introduced. iba handling ng jazz, responsive and accurate.

For me, its between vios and jazz/city. I'm a Honda lover but i like the new vios. Yun nga lang sooner or later baka magka-taxi version na. Its up to your preferrence na lang.

Accent Diesel if you are willing not to follow the PMS of HARI

Jazz if you want your warranty intact. But the new jazz is just around the corner

Personally, I don't really mind if a car is being used for cab service. Since it was trusted to run continuously for hundreds of kilometers daily, this actually proves the reliability and efficiency of this car. This would also mean that just about any mechanic would be familiar with it, and you will never have problems with parts. But then if it has cramped cabin and trunk space and cheap plastics, that is another story...

I can't comment on the accent or mirage but if you need trunkspace, the jazz has loads of it when you fold down the rear seat. However, the vios for me is a good all around car with excellent fuel economy and ease of maintenance. The only thing I don't like about it is that it is low. I've gone over some high humps where the vios has skidded. The jazz hasn't done this for me. I find it lower than any of our other cars. Both cars are comfortable enough for me and are easy to park due to their small size.

Can't believe people are still harping on about that 5000 km / 3 month deal.

Every single brand new car we've EVER owned came with a REQUIRED 5,000 km / 3 month service interval. And all of them would nag you on the phone to come in. Except with the CR-V. And even then, the only reason Honda didn't call us every six months was because we did 10,000 kms in just two to three months.

If you think Hyundai is being unreasonable with the 5k / 3mo interval, you've never owned a brand new car before...

I am also in this predicament. But my choice has narrowed down between accent and jazz. Jazz is roomier than the accent but it's higher on gas expense though. Never mind the PMS, one can live with the 5,000km rather the the BS 3 months crap. Yung sandalan lang ng accent sa likod is stiff. Good enough sa mga bata lang.

Well niky i do own a brand new 2012 kia sorento, and the pm schedule is 5000km/6 months.

And prior to that a brand new 2009 hyundai santa fe gen 2, and the pm schedule was also 5000km/6 months.

And before that a brand new 2007 hyundai starex grx, and the pm schedule was also 5000km/6 months.

And a brand new 2001 mitsubishi lancer mx, the pm schedule was also 5000km/6 months.

And so too was my brand new 1997 mazda 323, also with a 5000km/6 months pm schedule.

Why, oh do please tell why, my brand new hyundai grand starex bought in 2011, with a pm schedule of 5000km/6 months in the owner's manual, would suddenly need to be serviced every 3 months? What could justify this change 4 months after i purchased the vehicle and be told that their much advertised 5 year warranty will be voided if i do not follow?

After the first few maintenance sessions, we shift PMS outside, every 5000kms regardless of time. Never had any trouble. No warranty claims either.

Hyundai pasig doesnt follow the months rule... What they follow know is the 5k rule. I know coz i just bought an accent crdi from them. I even ask them pano kung lumampas sa 5k. They said its ok as long as its reasonable... Around 6-6.5k is acceptable... Pero as an owner di ko naman pababayaan na lumampas ng 6k.. Basta sa kanila kahit gaano katagal basta you bring it to them every 5k or within their allowable kms..
